What have you learned...
...over the last 6 months that will effect your decision making over the next six months?
Health, finance, family, work, etc... All topics welcome as long as you learned it recently and will apply it shortly.

Stock up on toilet paper. Apparently it will be in short supply in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

I can work from home and still be effective and productive.
I miss out on a lot of family life being away for work so often. I dont wear watches as much.

Working remotely is like going to Vegas. It’s fun for a little while but you eventually end up praying for it to be over. I hate Zoom.

I have been reminded that nothing in life matters besides life, family, health and happiness. How it applies is that I will try try to keep this at the forefront of my every action.
I have also learned zoom meetings are fantastic and can be more productive that real life ones. But good moderating to keep things in check is needed as well :) |

My first 3 weeks of working from home was hard for me. But now, i can't imagine driving to office everyday. I miss the office set up sometimes though.

I learned a hell of a lot of lessons while living on the Gulf Coast that worked very well for the pandemic or any emergency, really, so I've been prepared for years for whatever comes.
I think what I've relearned during the last six months is how much money I can put aside when I cut back on my social activities. There's a lot to be said for frugal living, which is something that I mastered in my youth that still apply now that I have plenty of discretionary income.

I learned that the bread and cheesecake I can make at home blows away anything at a restaurant.

Good point! I learned I don’t like several takeout restaurants I use to love. My homemade pizza skills have gone wayyy up. My tolerance for salt has decreased significantly

I learned that focusing too much on one topic in the news can screw with mental health. (I am trying very hard to exercise restraint right now, in fact.)

Me neither. My elitist thoughts have been reinforced. I keep them in my head though and try not to project. Who the heck am I.

I’ve learned to not take travel for granted and also learned that my productivity is pretty much the same when I travel. (Which basically means my office can live without me quite easily if I’m on the road)

I learned that I love to have a long walk in the morning before starting work, something that I couldn't do before Covid because of my 2-hour commute time. Plus, it helped me shaving some 50 pounds from my body.
I also learned that after 14-plus years working for the same company I don't miss many of my coworkers at all. I love smart working; I very much doubt that after this Covid crisis ends (BTW, they have announced another lockdown here in Italy where I live) I will go back to my old "4 days in the office - one day at home" schedule, I will probably reverse it. |

The most important and precious thing we have is life, yet it has absolutely no trade-in value.

I’ve learned, during this COVID period, it’s too easy to ignore the outside world. You have to take the extra steps to find ways to safety connect with family and friends. Time is fleeting so don’t miss the chance to stay involved. Parents, friends, etc need the interaction and support.

Just lately, the 'Open Discussion Forum' is the only one worth looking at.
I don't miss, going to the office at all! We really miss, going to the pub, for a quiet pint. Staying in bed for longer, is BEAUTIFUL! Getting up very early, seeing and hearing our garden awake, is BEAUTIFUL! I think I love people, and miss them,.....then, I meet them. Watching the NEWS, seeing how stupid a lot of people are, and shouting at the telly....makes me look really stupid! (apparently) Retirement is FANTASTIC...every day's a holiday! Getting old's a pain.......the alternative is not worth considering. |

I have learned that while the majority of people handled this terrible situation reasonably, with a community spirit and common sense approach, quite a few (at least here in America) are absolutely stupid. Someone said about faith and people being smart, my faith in humanity reached new lows. This, is being said from someone that has fought in a war; it is terribly sad but true.

I've learned that my Grandmother was right when she said "It's all fun till someone pokes an eye out".
I'll apply it over the next 6 months following another of her wisdoms "don't run with something sharp in your hand" You were right Nana!!!!!!

I’m not surprised by the misanthropy in some of these posts; it has been a lousy year. Hope it gets better for you!
Hat tip to the person who mentioned gardening and its effects. That is some good, simple advice. |
