Advice Needed - GS SBGY003 or VC 56?

Hi Guys,

I have the opportunity to either get a Grand Seiko SBGY002 at $6.2k or a Vacheron Constantin 56 (time and date model) at $9.2k. Which is a better buy?
Need advice on this before I pull the trigger.

Dont know much about the GS but the 56 at that price seems like a bargain and it is almost half the retail price - is all legit? I have tried the day date 56 on and it is a splendid timepiece in all respects.

Get the VC. Grand Seiko make very good watches, but they are all too thick. Grand Seiko arguably make better watches than Rolex and Omega, but they cannot compete even with an entry level VC.

For me, the GS, but both are very nice.

Isn’t retail US$10.9k for the time/date 56?

The GS all day everyday and twice on Sundays. IMO it’s superior to this VC.

I am a huge Grand Seiko/Seiko fan but understand the history of VC. Of these two watches I would choose the Grand Seiko. A beautiful watch.

Yup. But there’s a good 15% discount.

Apologies - I thought you were considering the day date. I would stay away from the time date model. It lacks the Geneva seal and the difference in movement finishing is obvious without the need of a loupe compared to the more complicated Fiftysix models. The day date is the pick of the bunch for me.

Anyone can give me a quick shout out for what’s the average price for a SBGY003. Ive been offered $6.6k for a binb from a grey dealer. Not sure if it’s a good deal?
