16610LV Random Serial Funny Story

Back in 2013, when I first acquire my Rolex, it was the Kermit 16610LV, this model has been in my wish list for long, till I have enough cash to pull trigger.

I got the watch from a local private seller , which bought the watch in Dec 2010. In those day, I'm not that good in Rolex serial knowledge, I just need the 16610lv because of the green and black combination submariner.

The local seller back then sell the kermit because he has got a new 116710blnr, he mention to me the 16610lv was a M serial, so I'm guessing he might have bought a NOS.

We both went to local Rolex SC to verify the watch, and everything went good. Cash paid , watch with me till today.

Until recently, a friend of my acquire a V serial, we have a watch session and comparing both serial. What come to a surprise to us is, he found out a funny serial engraving on my 16610lv rehaut, it's look like the M in the serial is engraved in the middle of the serial number .
I was never aware of this since the day one I got the watch, so we both we guessing it might be a random serial, but funny is that the serial is with only 1 single alphabet in the 8 digit serial number.

The next day I did some research at work and just realize that M serial engraving must start from M000000. Just can't wait to check out my warranty card and first thing I did back home, is to bring out the box and check.

What a surprise that I found out that the 16610lv I bought last time was a random serial , which I believe is the last batch of 16610lv . Looking back into the first day I got the watch, I was too excited and never give attention to the serial back then. Haha, just to happy for my first Rolex , and at this moment , I feel like I just bought the 16610LV again, because it's like a new watch to me again, after i found out it's a random serial , and not M serial .

What makes me thought it's a M serial those day is because the serial run like this 000M0000 , what a silly encounter .

I wish to see some input from all about the random serial 16610lv as well. Good day all.
Some pictures to end this post .

Good story. It's cool that you were so excited to get the watch and now have a renewed appreciation for it now. While they probably made a fair amount of them, it's pretty uncommon around here. Congrats 2x!

Wow! Stunning

Sometimes wish I had Marty McFly's DeLorean so I could go back to 2004 & buy a bunch of these and now sell them as NOS!

Very cool to have a 16610LV with a random SN. Last of the batch I believe and I've seen pics of some with an AR cyclops. To me, it's the best 5 digit Submariner Rolex made

Looks like this is a real cool watch that makes me have the second time being congratulated on the buying .

And the happy felling really grow in me again about the Kermit .

Good day all.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a random serial number and what significance or value does it have?

It has no value at all. It is simply the latest serial numbering system that Rolex began at the end of 2010. They are 8 digit serials in no particular order; random.

The 16610 with random serial are the last batch produced, it is cool to get but it does not get any premium for that. Only the condition of the watch and the full set wil keep the value of the watch.
Having a LV will give you a premium though.
It is a nice watch you have here. Enjoy it and think value only if you want to sell it.

No value if we are referring to serial number , but it's just for me that my watch is not that old and produce under M serial , it's few years younger haha..
I don't know when it comes to resell value .just wait and see.

I really have to agree that the last batch is cool , and what predicts the watch value is the condition and package we can keep in later days , ( only that we sell)
If we are not selling, don't mention about value , haha..

Ps: basically I never ask for what's the value of Random serial, I'm just sharing my silly encounter when buying my first Rolex . And I'm happy that I found its a newer watch productions and make me study Lv again after few years .
Just hope to see some input from the one who have the same watch

Great story and congrats! Random LV's few and far between and thus carry a nice premium. Only have seen a few over the years as well. So you are a lucky guy!

Congrats on finally realising it's a Random serial. It'll be worth a lot more than an M.

Some collectors like to have the last of a produced model, especially if it is a much sought after one, i.e. M serial for a 16710 which get important premium.

So for the sub 16610, it is the random serial, I don't think it'll have a premium soon, but you never know, sometimes it just happens that a standard watch few years back becomes subject to a hype, the internet helping of course.

IMO the only thing that would explain a higher price for a Sub random would be that it is newer.

2003 Y Serial costs a premium. 2004 F Series Flat 4 also, but less. All others only based on condition and maybe engraved rehaut. Thats what I learned in the past months while reading into the sbject and acquiring a NOS (V Serial, the last non random. Nothing special apart from being a 5 digit LV, of course ).

Very interesting story. It's always nice to find out your watch is even rarer then you thought.

We just can't tell the right value at this moment , he market will decide for it as time goes by.

As the watch is not for sale yet, so there's no value at all, just a self satisfaction and enjoy the story of this silly encounter by me .

All the best in hunting, there's still some NOS around , let's move fast .

I find out G serial is the last non random out there , correct me if I'm wrong

16610LV random serial

Similarly, my random serial is with M and 7 arabic numbers unlike M serial which has 6 arabic numbers.

As you can see, the first letter of random serials is located between 26 and 27 minute markers unlike M serial.
