30k POSTS, 10 YEARS, AND...
Celebrating 10 years of TRF with two incomings. Well, two recent incomings, anyway. Actually had these guys for a while, but wanted to wait for the 30k post mark.
On to the watches: The Platona. Needs no introduction, now, does it? It's a beast of a watch, with the weight of the platinum definitely taking some time to get used to. For my first platinum, I considered the brown sub dial version, the diamond dial version, and the DD40 as contenders. While I felt the diamond version was visually stunning, I made the call for the brown version, as to me I felt it retained more of its Daytona "vibe," if that makes any sense. The DD40 is amazing, but I'm still crazy about my WGDD40, so that seemed superfluous. Not to mention the whole sizing drama you get into with a president bracelet. Which leads us to this bad boy. The Cellini Moonphase. OK, now this one was a surprise. I was visiting my AD and he asks me if I'm interested in trying on a Cellini. I say, "the Cellini is not really my thing," but sure, I'll try anything on once. Well, I strap it on and I'm immediately in love. Perfect size, perfect weight, the dial is a work of art, I know I'm in trouble. I learn a couple of cool things about this watch: The "moon" is actually a chunk of meteorite. You can't really tell much from pics, but if the light catches that thing, it is an eye opening experience all by itself. The hour hand has the same jump feature as the GMT. Which makes the watch an excellent travel watch as well. Unless you were traveling to a beach-type destination, I think this would be a great travel watch. Light, comfortable, good-looking, and you don't have to worry about PCL's getting scratched up. IMO, anyway. Can't make up your mind about fluted or smooth bezel? Well, this watch has them both. All in all, this watch has quickly become a favorite in the collection. Love the vintage feel of the date indicator and how it feels on the wrist. Also how it gives you just the right touches of RG without overdoing it. All in all, a total home run Here's a few pics. (b/c we like pics, right?) Also wanted to say thank you to Steve and all the mods for a wonderful place for addicts (oops, I mean enthusiasts) can come and hang out with other like-minded individuals. And...of course, TGIF and have a great weekend everybody! |
