Weiss 42mm Standard Issue Field Watch - American Microbrand

I've been wanting to check out a Weiss watch for a long time now, and I was fortunate enough to purchase this watch from a very kind watch collector (thanks Mike) who kept it in excellent condition. Weiss has been on my radar because of the fact that a lot of the components that go into this watch are made in the United States, and in-house by the founder Cameron Weiss. This watch is from their Standard Issue line, which does not have an in-house movement, but is still a very impressive watch for the money. I often see this watch get mentioned in two contexts - (1) as a watch with a lot of American Made components and (2) Cameron Weiss' watchmaking education, and ties to Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. Thanks for sharing. I have been interested in Weiss for a while. I think many of us love the idea of a quality, durable watch made in America with many American made components. And Weiss' history working for VC and the like is really awesome. Great photos!

Thanks for checking it out. It is quite wonderful to see a brand try to push the limits of 'American Watchmaking', and do so much in-house.

I think that's fair if you compare spec-for-spec versus other European watchmakers. But the quality here is no less impressive, and there is clearly a draw towards the fact that so much of it is made locally.

Another point to note is that pre-owned prices on these watches are quite low, which means you can get them for incredible prices if you're not keen on buying new. I purchased this one pre-owned.

Certainly an interesting watch in and of itself, and even further enhanced with the backstory.

Really digging that Hanhart, and interesting comparison showing those two similar watches. I have to say that for me, the Hanhart has more depth in the details. For example the sunken subdial, railroad track and bi-color ((lumed?) numbers just seem to make it pop and a bit less flat than the Weiss.

Just my opinion of course and certainly not trying to denigrate the Weiss.

I definitely prefer the Hanhart too, and that Hanhart is one of my favorite watches I currently own. The Weiss was sold after this review!

Good to see Weiss is getting some exposure. I’ve listened to Cameron on several podcasts, he’s an interesting guy with a great pedigree in the business. His watch company is a real promising start up, I think they recently moved from Los Angeles, somewhere in the south, maybe Nashville? I’d really like to see his watches in person, but he has pretty limited outlets. Nice pics here

Yep, you're correct! I believe they've already moved to Nashville and will start churning out Nashville signed watches shortly.

I've noticed people saying this quite frequently. Currently, the dials are blank and have no city on them since they're in-between workshops right now. So if you want a Los Angeles - free dial, now is the time. I believe future dials will have Nashville on it.
