Scubapro 450 ref source?

The temptation for a scubapro 450 is growing but I know it’s a dangerous leap with the amount of fake/franken pieces out there. Can you guys some good reference sources to brush up on to help with educating myself before pulling the trigger on one?

100% agree...would still enjoy finding as much definitive info outside of that adage. On the Rolex end more of my experience is there still seen established dealers have hiccups caught by the community.

That sounds about right. That is a lot of money for a dial.

Looks like an 007 with extra writing. Does it have a particularly deep diving ability? 650m, I presume. I have a Breitling Superocean that goes 5000m and costs less.

I think it is a Seiko 6306 or 6309 with a label on the stock dial. I am not sure anything custom is done to it. They were sponsored by Scubapro.

They were only Seiko 6306, though majority of the fakes are 6309’s, which is a quick way to discern whether there is even potential for being a correct example. I have come across one legitimate example in the past year or so. If you just like the appeal of rare Seikos, you could try to hunt down one of the Antarctic research models, as they are not faked and IMP cooler than a Scubapro 450.

Does depth rating determine value? Nobody can dive to 5000M so who cares. As far as the Seiko goes I think $1000 is too much for one. They have no great value above the non-Scubapro model IMO. I would just assume have a fake one for several hundred dollars.

Fake Seiko ok, but fake Rolex is no good? I think you’re blinded by the crown

Why not just get a PADI turtle, also associated with some diving associations

Because for a fanatic, a scubapro turtle is something to aspire for.

There are actually scubapro-branded watches i think. But nothing beats the 6306 in terms of heritage. As i would suppose it can no longer be taken diving these days.

Agreed, for many the Scubapro 450 is considered the grail among the 6306 line. A lot of people are willing to pay a premium in order to have something unique. To me, though I love the model, I passed on the last legitimate model I came across. The dial text is cool, but doesn’t point to any particularly compelling provenance, other than that it was purchased at a Japanese dive shop.

That is not what I am getting at. I would just assume own a 6306 or whatever base model the Seiko is but without a Scubapro dial which seems to drive the price up by at least $3000 which to me is insane. I own more Seiko watches than Rolex and I like them all. I would never pay the premium for something like a Comex Seadweller either and I was a commercial diver, and still dive professionally.
