Even boxes of junk wax have gone up to crazy amounts.
Late last year you could buy a 36 pack box of 1990 Topps for $5, now you are lucky to find the same box for less than $30. They produced millions of these packs! Right now is not a great time to invest, everything is so high.

I was into it big time as a kid. Mainly Hockey and Baseball late 80's and 90's, when they couldn't print enough cards.
Recently have done a few online case breaks and scored a few NHL sig cards. |

If its anything from 1987-1995 then you will have a very hard time selling any of it unless it is one of the very limited run cards or key rookie cards. If they arent graded then the value is minimal because of fear of reprints.

Too bad it’s only one in about every 10 cases and then when you do find one hopefully it’s centered

My friend just sold a Jordan rookie PSA 9 Off Center on ebay for $12k in 24 hours.
Madness. This is all a bubble, and if you own stuff, this is the time to sell it. |

I tend to agree on the bubble but I said that about watches also and we all know how that went. I think there are similarities in you are getting new money to the hobby. Key rookies are skyrocketing and card collecting is becoming a bit more mainstream. |

Bidding started on my Jackie Robinson debut ticket 2 days ago.
It's already at $22k. Insane. A MJ Gem 10 rookie sold for $738K 2 days ago. These prices are just laughable at this point. |

Big time collector my whole life - mostly baseball. No interest in anything post 1978-or so. Values are completely out of sight - makes some of the watch gray market prices look like kid stuff.

Anyone collect sports cards?
So many of my cards collected during the 1980s are useless. Last time I looked, only 5% of the collection appreciated more than the cost of postage if sold on eBay.
1952 & 1953 Topps reprint sets from 1983. Similar to Topps Tiffany. 1984 Donruss, 1986 Fleer, 1988 Score Update, 1985 Fleer, & 1985 Donruss sets. First year Score Football set. I think the Troy Aikman & Barry Sanders were graded as PSA 9s. Not really valuable but nice to look at. 1984 Fleer Update set (top 10 cards were graded as PSA 9) 1973 Mike Schmidt O-Pee-Chee rookie. Had it traded. PSA 8 1970 Reggie Jackson. Had it graded as PSA 8. Various Mike Schmidt & Steve Carlton Topps & OPC cards from 1967-1979. Graded PSA 9 and 8s 1956 Hank Aaron & Ted Williams. Bought both for $10 in 1991. If graded, maybe PSA 2 max because of the rounded corners. Love these 2 cards though. Too bad the seller didn’t have the Mantle or Koufax. Various 1987-1988 Fleer star player Basketball cards. Graded PSA 8 & 9s. No idea why this set & cards aren’t worth more. ‘87-88 cards are actually harder to find than 1986-87 ones. Less were made. Everything else was given away. My signed baseball items faired much better but nothing Rolex Daytona-like :) . Personalized Schmidt game used ball. Game used & signed Schmidt bat. 300 game winners ball w/ Seaver, Ryan, Spahn, Perry, Sutton, Wynn, and Niekro. Balls and 8x10s signed by HoFers. |

I have a ton, complete baseball sets from 1976 to 1990 (Topps/Fleer/Donruss). Can’t find anyone to sell them to and my son as no interest in them.

I have a pretty awesome collection of Jordan, Lebron and Kobe rookies and autos. The recent boom has put my collection value at very high numbers. No complaints on my side.

Standard caveat applies. If it's not something you're actively intending to sell — it's truly not an investment. Collect any cards you want. But realize the liquidity and difficulty selling said cards in the future is very real. This is not a watch you can wear on your wrist. It only has value to the next person (presumably) willing to pay more than you did for same piece of pasteboard.
