Newer style Datejusts...Let's see some scans and opinions..
I posted this on another thread and was looking for feedback here...
I am fancing a newer style Datejust. I really like the 116234 (SS, silver dial, fluted bezel, newer style oyster bracelet) and the 116201 (TT rose gold, silver dial smooth bezel, newer style oyster bracelet). The newer style oyster bracelets rock. Not having a black dial will be a change of pace for me, but I need that. I am a SS kind of guy (currently have a sub date and PAM 48), so not sure if I can see myself with the 116201, but it sure is a sharp looking watch, especially with the rose gold. I always had SS watches, except for the TT GMT II that I bought last year and got rid of it pretty quickly. For some reason, I can not justify the price difference between SS and TT. As for the 116234, seems like a no brainer to me. I'll have to head over to the AD and try 'em on. I guess I have to make my own decision :) Follow up post... I went to the AD today. They only had the 116201 with oyster bracelet and also jubilee in stock. The 116201 was TT with yellow gold. I am looking for rose gold. Anyway, the TT yellow gold did not do much for me. I wonder if it would change my thoughts if I saw the rose gold in person? The dial was sweet though...darker silver in the center and lighter silver around the center (kind of hard to explain. like the black and white tuxedo dials, buy different colors). The newer style oyster bracelet is amazing. The date wheel is cool too. They call it the roulette wheel, where it is red and black on alternating days. I asked the AD to see if they could get a 116234. They are supposed to call me back next week. I think that's the one I want. They offer no discounts on SS and 10% on TT. My dad has a connection and I can get a much better discount. I'll keep you all posted. Adam |

And here is a borrowed pick of the 116201. Still not sure about which one to choose, but I may be better with SS in the long run.
What do you all think of the roulette date wheel? I thinks it's cool. They only use it on the two colored tuxedo style dials. Last edited by walds11; 19 March 2006 at 09:03 PM.. |

If you are going to go the TT route, then the rose gold version is much more classy IMO.
Whether or not you should go TT is a tough one......can't help you there. |

As for the "tuxedo style dials" I think I know which ones you mean but I've never heard that term before. How did it originate? |

Richard, not sure how the tuxedo dials originated, but the true tuxedo dial is black and white...black inner circle and white outer. The dial I am looking at has a darker silver inner and lighter silver outer.
As for the roulette date wheel, I like it. Adds a different touch to the watch. The dials are interchangeable like you said. The solid color dials come with an all black date wheel. I am looking at those as well. |

Thanks. Your further description clarifies the dial to which I thought you were referring. Actually, I've tried that silver dial on and it's quite attractive.
Have fun checking them all out. |

Is it possible that someone can tell me what the two tone silver dial style is called (the one in the first photo)? I recognize its not tuxedo, and I don't think its concentric either, but I'm not sure how it might be referred to.
Thank you! |

The roulette date wheel is indeed a very cool feature with a long history. And it is not limited to the tuxedo-dial variants. It is actually a bunch of references, which are equipped with it. You can easily google them.
