I’ve had it about a year. Bought it from that ‘eBay super lister in Montreal’.

Have you used Polywatch yet on the crystal? Would love to see the dial after the crystal has been cleaned up. And what an INSERT!

Thank you!

I don’t want to give away all my secrets, but I’ve semi-regularly had luck searching estate sales for watches. This piece came from the estate of a physician. Amazingly, it was in a bag with a bunch of other watches and the owners wife had no idea what it was. To her good fortune, although not mine, the estate sale company did realize it had considerable value.

I sent it off to the spa, and will post photos once I get it back. It was last serviced by Rolex Beverly Hills in 1993 (thank goodness, so there was no incentive to replace the dial with luminova). Just an honest, well loved, survivor. The best kind of vintage Rolex, IMHO.

Can’t believe you don’t remember how it came to me when he passed away back in 2011....like I said it’s been a while lol.
A lot of water has passed under the bridge since I was last on Rf properly.

MarkV. The red paint was applied directly onto the black paint of the dial. It’s different with the MarkIV where the red was applied on top of a white painted “submariner”

Compare these Mk 4,5,6 (top down) with yours. Characteristic differences are the open/close '6' of 660 ft, the shape of the Submariner 'S', and different letter positions.

Thanks! the patina color, its evenness, the dial condition, and the strong case with its original chamfers just blew me away.
