Some interesting takes on the use of a like button. I don't think I've ever gone back to my comments to see how much love they've received, so I've never even considered it as a popularity contest. I've just always seen the use as a quick thumbs up to a good comment on whatever issues were being discussed. Sounds like more dislike for the like than like for the like!

"Like" button on posts...

I think the Taptalk version did have a like feature a few years ago.

The Netflix show, Black Mirror has a great episode called Nose Dive, about a society that rates is people by the number of "likes" they get with every encounter.

I don’t want to detract from all the machismo, ................... but I have read that the original (early 2000’s) purpose for “like” buttons on forums was to provide an alternate to numerous posts stating such, in order to save server space.

Dunno, that’s what I read.
