Didn't know that AP will not polish only part of a watch....

I have a 26331IP and unfortunately I have managed to get a scratch on it. Not huge or deep but just annoying. Its not on the bezel but on the case before the bracelet starts.

I though AP would just be able to brush/buff it out. But to my surprise they cant - they can only polish the whole watch. Its a problem of matching the brushed finish. If they only did a small part of the watch then that part may look different from the rest.

Now there is no way i'm going to polish the entire watch for that scratch. Would be totally OTT. Even AP said it would prematurely age the watch.

But thought people should know. Maybe I'm the only one that didn't....

Hi. I just bought a 26331IP used. The bezel is a little scratched and I would like only the bezel to be polished. Is it possible? I haven’t been to service centre.
Any cons of polishing a platinum bezel?

I’m pretty sure this is typical for other brands too. If you want to get rid of a specific scratch on one surface of a watch like this I think you’ve gotta go the route of laser welding. It’s not cheap but polishing part of the watch whenever there’s a scratch isn’t really a practical solution for the reason they gave you.

I understand the point about being practical ie cant do it for every scratch. Would be OTT.

But I didn't realise that they cant actually do it on the Royal Oak due to its brushed finish - its the whole watch or nothing.

Interesting, also discourages OCD types from having it done every time a new scratch surfaces. As it can only take 4/5 polishes, best to have one done on an annual basis at best anyway.
