I'd rather have the AP RO Jumbo. I've owned lots of Rolex watches and still own several. They are nice, rugged, durable pieces. However, the workmanship, design and movement really set the Jumbo apart from Rolex or other manufacturers. It's base movement was the only movement ever used by AP, Patek, and Vacheron. While Jumbo is expensive for an all steel watch, the longer you own it the more you appreciate the complexity of its design, the amazing finish, you see why it costs significantly more than a steel Rolex. While the DD is a classic in the Rolex line up, you see them everywhere. If you love both, get rid of the Hublot and get both if you can swing it. Good luck!

I would personally prefer the DD but it does seem like you're more excited about the RO so that may be the better choice for you

Always helps to try on both first if you can. Although AP retailers are scarce and Im uncertain about availability/waitlist process works with them. Send pics when you choose. Good Luck!

Day Date

I think the Day Date you are considering looks fantastic. I personally can't pull of the 40mm size though.

I know many in our community love the Royal Oak, but frankly based on first hand experience with a new 15450 in the past I think it is over hyped. My experience was terrible with their caliber 3120. While beautiful to look at, it was horribly unreliable. I thank God that I had a warranty and sold it immediately after the warranty expired. The 15202, while a legendary icon does not have a quick set date. If you wear it in rotation I suspect this would get old real fast.

Just my two cents.

I've had my RO 15202 for 8 years...knock on wood no issues. It also uses a completely different movement than your old watch. The 15202 uses cal 2120 and it's design is nothing like 3120. In addition, while it doesn't have a quick set, one can advance the date quickly by advancing the time from 10 pm to 2 am and back again repeatedly to advance the date. So the lack of a quick set isn't a big deal for most owners.

Still the OP should try each on, even if it means going to a store with pre-owned pieces so he can try on a 15202. Then buy whichever one makes him happiest.

Agreed. I am glad your 15202 has been solid, and I am sure other's whose timepieces shared the same movement mine had were fine. I am still chapped mine was a POS.

For me, I would go with the Day-date but at the end of the day, it is all about what you want.

Be ready for the bling of the DD. The AP is awesome and flies under the radar.

Yes, thanks for the good wishes. Sorry to hear that your 15450 didn't work out so well for you. I've heard of issues with the Offshore chronograph movements, but not really with their time only pieces. Anyway, hope you found something nice to take it's place on your wrist. Cheers!

they're almost equal in terms of bling. the royal oak bracelet outshines any watch in restaurants/bars/under sunlight but the day date is probably more consistently flashy because its gold obviously

both are special but day date is more special imo. PM > SS

If i see the AP than i see an outdated watch, the DD is a timeless classic imho

1,000,000,000% Daydate for many reasons but the biggest is the quality and robustness of the Rolex compared to AP not to mention the cost of service of AP vs rolex.

Life is short, buy the watch.

It depends what DayDate and what Royal Oak. I don’t like the green dial DD and the RO Jumbo. So I’d go with the RO (non jumbo).

I have both the
- Jumbo (15202) which I bought in 2017 at list. Absolutely STUNNING watch. Probably my favourite and I find much nicer than the larger RO. The issue with this is that it’s a scratch magnate due to shape, so I only wear it rarely.
- Day Date - I have rose gold, olive. Absolutely unbelievable watch to wear. Very different to that AP due to its heft and presence. Very robust, yet classy.

Really depends what you’re after. Both amazing, both very different to each other.

I would go Day Date. Sounds like you want a PM piece and it’s great one as well as fills a bit of a dressier side to what you have.

I’m a bit RO fan as well, but in all honestly I think they cost more than they realistically should and that the Day Date is a lot more watch for the money.
