Talking Watches w/ Todd Levin and His Three Watch Collection

I found this episode to be one of my favorites, and was shocked that essentially it was just a three watch collection, but what an incredible three watches.
This episode hits home with me because it reminded me most of all of why I loved watches so much and sort of defines the difference between the frivolous modern "watch collector" that has every popular IG watch versus someone who is invested academically and emotionally in the love of of horology and what a watch can mean.
There's surely a price to pay for the watch, this hobby isn't really budget friendly, but there's also a reason based on value. The real value isn't based on monetary significance but rather why you personally decided to be drawn to it, whether aesthetics, engineering, design or simply attach the watch to a personal event, that has a more profound meaning.

This episode reminded me of my early fascination with horology and George Daniels, definitely going to take a step back from the world of six digits and speculation to invest some time in reading up on old fashion horology.

Thanks for the shout out! The Talking Watches segment was fun to do, and the entire Hodinkee team made everything really easy... Best to all, Todd Levin

Welcome, 'newbie'! Loved the back stories on each of the watches, and so refreshing to hear a newer collector that isn't focused on the price but rather the value specifically to the collector.

Watch collecting is, or should be in my opinion, an affair of the heart.

There is a logical component, which Levin alludes to, but when you see his response to the watches his father and grandfather owned, you know that logic is secondary, when all is said and done.

I've always loved this interview, because the watches that this man owns, all have some sentimental value and personal connection.

Thanks everyone - super kind on behalf of all of you. Admittedly, the Hodinkee team (and Stephen in particular) made me sound much more auspicious than I actually am! And I concur with GradyPhilpott - that Roger Smith episode was, for me, both extremely informative as well as the standard bearer for a terrific "Talking Watches"... t
