You mentioned you thought all movements since 1988 go clockwise. 1991 was only three years later. Maybe Rolex was still easing the new movements into the line, which would make sense given how the company seems to like to transition slowly rather than to suddenly change gears.

Now I'm hoping my Explorer I is a very rare and coveted watch, but that never happens to me, so I'm guessing all the N serial Explorers operate like mine.

3135 also was around 1988 and is clockwise/clockwise same as 3185 then 3186

Interesting thread. Not an expert, but I don't see anything about these pieces that look fake. If you see something you should point it out specifically. Good point to the posters who noted the edges of the lighting bolt and other details which indicated authenticity. To say that the watches or the op is not real because of the dollar amount involved and a seemingly nonchalant tone is not a valid argument. For some $30k is a house or a lifetime of savings, for others it is diner & wine or a fun weekend. I happen to not fall into either of those categories, however from reading this overall forum it's clear to me that there is a wide range of financial strata represented here. Some people naturally and wrongly assume that the financial perspectives they know of are also shared by everyone else, and thus any other perspective is invalid. I say to the original poster, if you are able to nonchalantly spend $30k or more, congratulations and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the helpful responses, sorry it took two pages to reach that point, but the last two pages have been very reassuring to me. This is the kind of input I was hoping to receive from a place like this: educated pro and con. It is greatly appreciated.

I know the milgauss isn't everyone's taste, but I like it. I guess I'm just trashy like that.

I'll have them checked out by an AD when I get back to civilization.
