After reading all the negative comments about the DeepSea I passed on buying this watch on 2 different occiasions over the past year. I wanted it for my collection since I already own a few Subs and GMTs but the comments I read (on this forum and a couple others) made me think the watch was not only too big but an overall bad decision. "Not a practical watch"..."writing inside was obnoxious"..."bracelet is too small for such a big watch"...etc.

While I appreciate the comments and realize this watch may not be for everyone I strongly disagree with all the negativity. My guess is those that say negative things about the watch are those that don't want to pony up the cost. I just received mine and all I can say is, it is awesome. It is no bigger than any of the other watches in this category (accept for a bit thicker) and i'm not sure why all the negativity.

I love the Ceramic Subs, the Ceramic GMT...same goes for the DeepSea. It makes me happy to have such a "beefy" watch, especially since it's Rolex quality and tradition. I have just over a 7" wrist and it looks perfectly fine, all the comments I read made me think if I purchased the watch people would stop and ask me if they could use the toaster I have strapped to my wrist. I guess some people just feel better about complaining, i'm sure those are the ones that don't want to spend the money to purchase what I would consider to be one of Rolex finest watches. Guess you can't believe everything you read is the moral of the story.

If you are considering this watch take it from me it is a keeper, don't let negative comments lead you in the wrong direction. If you have a small wrist size (I consider my 7-7.25" wrist on the smaller side) the watch isn't as "scary" and huge as some have said and it may suit you just fine.

while I know this an old topic.. where is the best pricing on this model currently?
the 111660 model in 44mm.
I've looked around and 9k ish is the best I've found.

Thanks in advance! This will be my first Rolex and I am super excited. I've owned an Omega Seamaster Professional for years and love Omega, but a Rolex is an itch I've always needed to scratch!

Tried one on a while back - amazing piece of engineering and will no doubt become an icon but it just felt too big. That said, still might be a runner at some point!

Great review and comments. Im planning to buy the new Deepsea D-Blue. Its big, but its bad ass. I'm a little confused on the pricing im seeing on here. I see people paying ~$9000, but everything I'm seeing is $12,000 plus. Are we talking new or used? Thanks!

$12,050 is list on the black DSSD. the deep blue is around $300 more I believe, so around $12,350. $9000 is likely a pre loved piece.

Guys, and gals, I am considering this Deep Sea watch.. should I hold out for the "blue" version? it's far more expensive, even used.. also.. I have a 6.25" wrist.. the Deep Sea is pushing it as far as size goes, but I tried on a deep sea SAT and have to say it wore better than the SD4000, on my wrist. the bulkiness lends itself well to this watch. I don't dive and don't need a watch this thick, but I love the dial's legibility and I love the "valve" writing around the dial.

Great review and sharing. Owned one and now my daily piece. I must confess I too were influenced by all the negative comments (God knows how many were given by ones really ever owned it) but only after a few days, it blend into me.

It's chunky, yes. It's heavy, yes. Its over engineered, may be. But I love the way it is.
Owned a 6694, date just TT and a hulk too and SDDS is certainly the one I love most.

Just picked this beauty 3 days ago and I'm loving it!
Resale price for the DBlue is above the "list price" (at least in most European countries), so after calling/visiting 23 different ADs in the north of Italy, I was lucky to find an AD without waiting list for this model (most of them had 2 or 3 people waiting) and that had just received a new inventory of watches about to be delivered in the following week.
The standard one with black dial is very easy to find here and to get a discount around 15%. But for the amazing blue dial.... it is totally different: almost the same as with the new ceramic daytona...
