Getting fit

Hey guys,

Throughout my life fitness has always been a huge part, I used to play high level soccer, golf and now I'm focused on running, want to do some half and full marathons soon. I know it's easier to come up with an excuse than to execute and lots of people need just a push. So I found this youtube channel focused on Jump Ropes, I must say it's been a pleasant experience jumping, so I'll leave it here for those who are looking for a workout alternative. They even have a free 4 week program.

Highly recommended. Now whenever I travel, I bring my jump rope with me.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmY...bpHnSFG-CQ1A-A

Hope this helps

Running is great, I love the long distances, I'm sure you'll love 'em too.
As for the jumping ropes, not something I thought about before! But if it helps, keep jumping

Running is a great to clear my head, long runs are the best for that but sometimes you just don't have the time for it, example, next week I'll be in china for business, since I won't have that much time to run, I just Jump rope, some squats, push ups and get a workout done, 30-45 mins. The important thing is to do something and stay active.

I do a little running but much more walking. I walk five or six miles every other day (or so). I really enjoy the time, (listening to music or radio programs) and it does burn a decent amount of calories.

Rope jumping must be making a comeback.

I read a number of years ago it was a great exercise for upper and lower body, as well as balance and agility.

Think it was around the time of late Ali and early Sugar Ray training for fights.

I used to do multiple disciplines but now that am getting older (47yrs), I just focus on running, hiking and golf. So far, me and wife have finished 3 marathons and we intend to participate 1 marathon per year if time and health permit.

You are right, you have to stay active. Good that you found a way even during a business trip.
Keep us posted on the marathon progress

Any suggestions for people with foot problems? I wanted to try mountain biking years ago, but shortly before I bought a bike I ended up breaking my foot. Now, any sort of impact or extended periods on my feet ends up in lots of discomfort and swelling.

Concept 2 Rowing Machine. I bought one two-years ago after dealing with an ankle injury and it is amazing. I row 3-4 times a week and it has become my favorite workout.

Amazing workout. You can go low and slow or do some HIIT workouts. One thing you cannot do is cheat like you can on an elliptical or stairstepper.

Eventhough I have several I can use at my club, i am seriously considering buying one for the house.

The best zero impact all body workout will be swimming. Otherwise you can start to do some floor stretches and workouts for now. Push ups, crunches and squats. Mostly involving body weight. Google callisthenics...

I raced bicycles for 20 years. Both road and mountain. Mostly long distance Mtn biking. Time and being a bit burned out, I turned to trail running back in late October. Since then I’ve done 4 half trail marathons, a trail 21 miler and have two 50K races coming up with a 50 miler in the fall. My typical longish training trail run is a 14 mile loop near my home. Plus quite a few other events this summer. It’s awesome having a new workout passion in my fifties!

Another one for the rower (Concept2). If I really want to smash myself I sit on it for an hour and see how far I get.

Another one that I like is a thing called F45 which is a HIIT gym that originated here in Aus and has branched to certain parts of the US. No two sessions are ever the same and you are out in 45 mins.

Bicycling - Mostly mountain biking and some road cycling, it helps endurance, balancing which is important for an old man, it brings thrills yet peacefulness. I started it out late and have been doing it continuously for past 28 years...
