Exciting! Your son is going to be so happy.

Also, great call with Orijen. I recently switched to Orijen and my two dachshunds absolutely love it. My older one (~13) seems to have more energy than before and she gobbles down the food like no tomorrow.

I’m so excited.

Almost nothing brings more laughter and joy into a home than a puppy.

Can’t wait for pics.

Missed this thread until now. Congrats on the puppy! Here's my boy and steadfast/loyal companion waiting for his morning ambulatory adventures. The doggy "who's your daddy" DNA assessment (Banfield) determined he's 50/50 Black Lab and Great Pyrenees. dog in doorway_30pct.jpg

Haha thanks guys!! I haven’t been this excited since Christopher was born. We haven’t stopped talking about it. Christopher got Nick’s bed and doggie bowls ready. We got a nice big crate yesterday with partitions so it’ll grow with him. Bunch of other stuff as well. A toy or two but we’ll figure out what he likes, hope it’s not my wife’s shoes. She has a habit of taking them off in the worst places. Like in passage ways

That's great to hear, Wes. Your Dachshunds sounds awesome. The literature from the kennel suggests only using Orijen as dry food. Doggie snacks too. I went to Amazon and almost spit out my coffee yesterday when I saw the price of that stuff. My lord.

You are almost better off feeding them cooked beef and chicken.

This is what Sylvia provided. I’m going to try it and see how it works out — modify as we go along.

I would be concerned about listeria with your pup from raw meats. And while healthy dogs aren’t as susceptible to salmonella and campilobactor as we are, I would be concerned about an infected dog around young kids.

Yeah I totally get what you’re saying. I’m new to this.

The high end dry dog feeds are made from rendered meat (not guts). Dry feeds are fully cooked protein meal with nutrient additives. They add a component made from chicken hearts and livers that dogs love (it’s pricey, but dogs will eat anything with it).

You aren’t losing much nutritional value giving your dog cooked meats and eggs. But you are controlling risk to your pup and your family.
