No
If you ask me if I would prefer a CB or a ressonance, I would ofcourse take the ressonance.
But the most complicated is imo not the most iconic

What is the most iconic patek? A repeater? A split second? I would say the 5711.
Iconic pieces are imo not the most expensive or complicated

I think the CB is the most iconic FPJ

To my eye the Iconic Patek is the 2499. I guess everyone has an image in their mind.

For Journe to me it would definitely be the tourb even though I’d much prefer an early resonance.

Whilst completely subjective and a bit pointless to debate, it’s hard to say a watch that only came in 2009 and without the instantly recognizable subdials of the original rdm, resonance or tourbillon is the most iconic!

For Patek, I would say a Calatrava is the most iconic model. A 5711 is the most recognizable model by the mass and that just happened in the past few years. When someone mentioned Patek, I would see a banker’s gold watch in my mind. That’s what I considered iconic.

I actually had a discussion with my Journe AD about the stepped steel frame on the dial as I was curious why it is removed from all the models except the Chronometre Optium, Resonance and Tourbillion. His answer is that these are the original models so I guess it is important to maintain the most iconic design hence the DNA of the brand. The CB has a lot of Journe DNA in it but it does not have the standout characteristics of a Journe. For example, the most important information on the dial, the time, should be on the right half of the dial.

Anyway, everyone will have his/her own thoughts on this. And if the boutique offers a CB to me, I would jump on it but I know it won’t happen as I was told by the boutique that I should treat that watch as non-existent.

2499 ?
For you, me and some others but believe me 90% of the people that buy a Patek today never heard about that reference.

Things change and we know too much and are stuck in history :-).

I read the Calatrava is considered the most iconic ... Yes that once was correct but I think the last 5-10 years things changed dramatically

Today the market decided the Nautilus is THE Patek.

what is btw way yah most iconic? I would say the most popular, the one everybody knows, the one most people think about when referring to s specific brand

Well I'm sure this is the 5711 and not our (a few die hard collectors with a big knowledge ) 2499
And concerning Journe It's probably the CS

We should treat CB is entry-level iconic watch for Journe. Just like 5711 for Patek. 5513 for the vintange Rolex submariner. 116500 for the modern Rolex etc. This means most of collectors regarless of senior or junior would like to own them because of their popularity in any collector groups.

Will post the result here after 24 hrs

I just checked Chrono24 and this is the first time I can remember that there are no CBs listed for sale. The only one I’m aware of is at Watchbox for $105K.

I guess it’s not only due to the fact that most of the less than 2,000 CBs are sitting with collectors and aficionados but also driven by the fact that even at 100k, everybody is still anticipating a further increase in prices in the months to come.

There’s one listed here in Singapore for 90k USD. It’s been sitting there for months and looked a bit ridiculous being listed at that price whilst 3 others were listed at same time in 60k region. Those are now sold and guess this owner will have the last laugh!

Just saw one incoming at EWC under F. P. Journe. Curious if that'll end up in New Arrivals with a price attached or if it'll get sold before...

Well that was quick. Has anyone seen one listed currently for sale anywhere else? Alternatively there are plenty of 5711s out there for the buying.

Not that I am aware of
But we can’t compare it withal 5711
A 5711 is mass production when compared with the CB
Besides I would not only look at the 5711 but all the nautilus... in all materials and all complications
It’s basically always the same watch ( looks )
While the CB is unique. There are no other dials, materials or complications

Me thinks current prices are paid by those hoping to be able to pay for college for 3 or 4 kids when selling rather than those who want to enjoy the watch.

In fairness, I think you'd have to include all CS (and not just CB) if you want to compare with all Nautilus no matter the complication or material. But there are likely 5-10x more 5711 blue out there than CB.

If you want a low production # FPJ there are better Journe picks. By comparison there have been a lot more CB made that many journes.

Btw what’s the story with 48mm Elegante listing at usd97k??? If the Elegante 48 is at that price level, usd109k for the CB is a real bargain no wonder they are flying off the bloody shelves! haha

Elegante 48 and definitely the titalyt goes strong today. 97K is too crazy but 50-60 K (euro so 60-70 USD) seems to be the price today. A lot for a quartz watch.
But once again, I'm sure the Quartz in the Elegante costs more than the automatic in ANY Rolex.
Would I pay euro 55K for the Elegante ? No, cause for that price you can get any Journe chronometre Souverain from FPJ. And I still do prefer manual or automatic. On the other hand if one really likes the looks of the Elegante ... Why not.

We have to accept that a group of collectors hunts for the iconic designs and watches. And a design is more important to them than finishing or complications.
Who would have thought 10 years ago a 5711 still would have about the same value as a 5970.

I try to compare it to extremely expensive art, to give you an idea.

This one is a Rubens made around 1600

Do I like it ? NO
But I can understand this is art and there i no way I can make something like this

The other one is a recent Rothko

Do I like this one ? Maybe more my style but on the other hand I think a 7 year old kid can make something similar ;-)

Now .... BOTH are among the most expensive paintings ever and both fetched 75.000.000 USD !!!
Somehow I think the Rubbens is a grande complication with superb finishing and the Rothko is a very simple 3hands entry level piece...
BUT its obvious that there is a market for both.

So this Elegante for 50-60K USD ?
For some it's worth it
