SPB147J1 - seeking input

I’m posting a different request this time.
The SPB147J1 diver has really caught my attention. It has a gorgeous brown dial, which I’m looking for, the 6R35 mvmt., 70 hr. power reserve, and 40mm case dimension.

I’ve contacted 2 different AD’s in my area to see if they had this model. Both are checking to see if they can acquire it as they don’t have it in stock. So far, I’ve just seen it on Chrono24 & eBay. As you can imagine, I’m reluctant to purchase the watch sight unseen & without trying it on. I’ve made that mistake twice, and ultimately sold 2 Seikos since that wore too large.

Does anyone have information or personal pics of this model watch? Is it a limited edition? I’m unable to post pics of it as tapatalk is not logging me in this morning (go figure- Lol). Information currently acquired has come from YT videos.

Regards!

I have one. I really like it. I stopped wearing my turtle because it was too big but the 147 is perfect. The rubber strap is comfortable but I mostly wear it on a mesh band.

I sold my PADI mini turtle for the same reason. Do you mind my asking, where did you purchase it? Pics please…

I've tried on one. It's a gorgeous piece. I thought it wore small on my seven and a half inch wrist.

Thanks! Good to know as my wrist is 6.25”.
Do you know if it’s a limited edition? I’ll find out today if local AD’s can acquire it.

Great watch and along with the SPB143 work well in my collection. The watch has drilled lug holes and it is very easy to change straps and bracelets. The timing on both of mine is very good and I enjoy them.

Thanks William. I’d love to see a collection pic from you as you have quite an extensive one. Maybe post a Seiko version here?

I will take an updated picture but this one is from a while back. Most of the models are still in the collection but I have added and sold a few.

That is an impressive collection good sir. How does the Arnie wear? I’ve had my eye on it for a while but hesitant on fit.

I've had mine for a while now and I also have three others with this case in various configurations. I find it wears much smaller than a Turtle. I love the look of the rose gold hands and indices against the brown dial.

It is neither a limited or special edition so I would think it will be easy to get.

I have the 149. I know it’s a different dial colour, but with similar dimensions. I have a six and a half inch wrist. My initial plan was to get a 149 and a 147 later. But I ended up getting another 149 for my wife. After having gone through many different Seikos, this watch has taken more wrist time than ever.
.
Bought an uncle Seiko waffle and this is by far the best combo IMHO.

Steel bracelet is cool too…

Very comfy on a tropic

Bottom line is…you won’t go wrong whether you choose the 145, 147 or 149

Good luck and we hope to see pics soon

Note that there are two dial versions: the original (see post #15 above) and one with an added lume plot next to the date window (see post #6). The latter was, I believe, introduced later to comply with ISO requirements (or something like that). Make sure you know which one you are getting (if you have a preference) if you are buying brand-new from a dealer that only shows stock pics.

Curse you for showing me the 149 - Lol! I can see why you both wanted that color way. My collection is lacking a blue dial since I sold my mini turtle. Thanks for the feedback; I appreciate it! Regards…

The Arnie wears great and not as large as advertised. The only issue is which one do you want.

Alright guys, you talked me into it; I’m taking a leap of faith!! I purchased this morning from an international seller on eBay who deals quite extensively with Seikos. Pics to follow
Btw Adam, I went with the 2021 version that has lume at the 3.

Haha…you won’t regret it my friend. This 40.5mm case wears so well and so comfortably, you won’t want another. I have had issues with how thick Seikos are, esp the MAS reissues and some GS. Even the manual wind ones. But this, this case size is very close to being perfect. And having lugholes means you can very easily and very quickly change straps.

We eagerly await your incoming photos

It has arrived; much quicker than anticipated :)
I’m loving the feel of the case and watch on my wrist. The dial color adds nice variety to my small collection. As you can see, I’ve wasted no time in purchasing additional straps to pair with the watch.

Now my only concern is, will it be redundant to purchase the Tudor BB58 w/black strap? I could always put it on a jubilee bracelet. Suddenly, I’m loving that look. Ha!

SPB147J1 - seeking input

You made a good choice, @jtl31.
I've had a 143 for a couple of months and it's my dedicated exercise (inc mountain biking) and swimming watch. It feels solid as a rock. I run it on a couple of natos - after getting sweaty I rinse the watch and nato and switch in a clean one.

Funnily, I had a BB58 on order. And when the AD called me to say that the watch has arrived, I passed after trying them on. Both the blue and and black dial. Pease don’t get me wrong. The BB58 is a beautiful watch. But this blue is more beautiful than the one one the Tudor. And the strap changing is easier on the Seiko.

^ @dualcarb I understand where you’re coming from. Since you showed the 149 I’ve actually reached out to two to see if the watch could be acquired, whether BNIB or preowned mint condition. Again, I credit you or curse you - <jk> haha!

I would much rather see that shade of blue over the BB58 blue in my collection. As far as the need for strap changes of the Tudor black strap, I would simply go back to the AD. [They are a small owned family business; many of the sales associates know me by name and treat me very well as I’m there “to play” so often. Writing a letter of commendation to the owner years ago about select staff has proven to be a bonus for me, as I’m not a big spender (at all) ain’t their jewelry store.] Rewarding exceptional service and being nice was the right thing to do. No need to bring donuts as they joke about in the Rolex forum. Haha!

Time will tell what I settle on! My preference at this point are the 149 & the black strap BB58. They both fit like a glove on me and I truly appreciate them. Regards! Have a good day :)

Looks good! Seiko really hit it out of the park with these 143/147/149 models.
Congrats on yours; I hope you continue to enjoy it!
