Damaged crown seal

Ok so I decided to look at the crown o-ring on my 116610 with the aid of a loupe. Sure enough there is a small slice in it. So my question is can it be replaced without removing the crown? It appears that it could stretch over the crown but I'm not sure. My AD said they would hold on to it for 2 1/2 weeks to fix it. Uhhh...

Either way I would like to do it myself but I was just hoping to change out the easy way.

Where would one get the replacement o-ring (or gasket or seal )?

Crown seal or tube gasket?

It is the little oring that is exposed when you pull out the crown.
I now believe it is referred to as the case tube seal

It's pretty unlikely that a tiny "slice" that you need a loupe to see on the outer o-ring will ever cause you an issue. That one is mostly cosmetic.

There are three other o-rings inside the tube that do the sealing, plus one inside the crown, and that visible one is a third seal (hence Trip-lock)

Any decent watchmaker who works with Rolex can likely change it for you in a few minutes and so your AD probably didn't have one and needed to send it back to Rolex

No, you cannot stretch the o-ring over the top of the crown. The crown and stem need to be removed to do the job.

well, additionally, the tube gasket is very easy to replace should you decide to do so.

I am looking for the tools as I text this. What size is the caseback for the 116610 Sub? Where would I get the Rolex replacement o-ring?

I'll get the Screwball while I am at it but I would like to have the proper size socket for the caseback.

+1

The watchmaker would remove the case-back, loosen the stem screw on the movement, remove the crown and stem. Then he would replace the o-ring on the outside of the case tube.

Reverse the procedure to replace the crown, stem, and case-back.

My 16600 has a similar flaw and passes the water proof test all the time. My watch maker said why fix it if it's not broken.
