for me it limits wrist mobility. Even something as simple as push ups can be a little annoying with a watch on. Of course, certain exercises with dumbbells, metal handles etc, can make direct contact with your watch. Not only does that mobility issue come into play, but why would I intentionally subject my watch to banging agains metal dumbbells, bars and weights.

I am usually of the opinion to wear them in basically everywhere and all situations and that too many owners are too cautious and baby them too much, however confession time....
I do not wear my watch in the gym. For me it limits my mobility a bit and it would be a hassle readjusting where it sits on my wrist constantly. For instance on back day if I decided to do pull ups, and gravity slides the watch up my fore arm, but my muscles are constantly flexing and retracting inching it further up and then getting tighter each time I flex would be a hassle to me. Same principle with many different exercises. I do not wear it so tight that it just slides all over the place either, but just the mechanics of how everything goes in the gym it just gets in the way. That and the fact that I am not really using it at the gym at all as I stay pretty focused on the workout and do not have a ton of rest in between it just makes it more of a hassle and unnecessary.

I’d much rather wear a watch in the shower than at the gym...
I do wear an Apple Watch (when I remember to put it on).

A better question is, "why would you take it off just because you're going to the Gym?".
Wear the watch, don't let it wear you! -Dan

I sometimes have quite a fast run on the treadmill and have banged my arm on the arms of treadmill at times. Obviously the watch can take some bangs but for me it’s unnecessary banging. Simple as that really. Everywhere else is go for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I always wear a sports model to the gym. I like to time breaks between sets and the amount of cardio I'm doing when I hop from treadmill to bike to elliptical, etc. Plus, the dials always pop in the gym lighting...

Too restricting and uncomfortable for me but I guess it depends what you do. Chin ups, kettle bells, and free weights would eventually just ding it up. Plus why wear it unless you are doing intervals in which then a good non metal sports watch would do.

Whether you think of your Rolex as a tool or piece of jewelry there’s no need to bring either to a gym.
If you consider it a tool watch are you using your Daytona to time your sets? If you’re in the other camp and consider it jewelry, why would you wear a $15,000 piece of jewelry to a gym where you’re going to sweat all over it and possibly bash it against a dumbbell?

I never wear a watch in the gym because I exercise with heavy weights and am afraid that the watch will hit the weights.

My little dj went to the gym this morning. Had no problem lifting some weights and swimming for about 30 mins.

I have been a very active member of my gym for more years than I care to remember, I've worn my Rolex through all they have thrown at me, be it spin, pilates, boxersize, yoga, even their latest thing ( which I love by the way) Insanity, I just wear it, and afterwards, the sauna, they'll cope. The only comment I have ever received is in the sauna, when somebody asked me if I knew I still had my watch on.

Why Don't People Wear Their Watch to the Gym?
I wear mine. Our gym is only for residents of our development. I live in a gated community. Either way, I’d probably still wear it anyway.
I use it to time # of seconds between reps in a set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Garmin or a beater Seiko at the gym. Leave the Rolex at home in the safe. Why take a chance?

Never take mine off — even at the gym. Have to say, though, the 1675 is the most comfortable to work out in and the Tudor was never comfortable — even when I wasn’t at the gym!

I can understand wearing it if your gym has poor security or not feeling comfortable leaving that high value item in locker room.
Apart from it looking pretty stupid wearing a Rolex in the gym something like a smart watch or g-shock is better suited. But then there are those that wear submariner with tuxedo also, maybe the same guys? |

I prefer wearing a smart watch while I'm training, but I take that off too for heavy lifts.

I don't have the wrist dexterity when lifting to wear a watch.
And some of the curls, grips, I use the watch would get in the way. |

ok, fair enough. we can chalk this to "depends on what you do in the gym".
Before the pandemic, I signed up for boxing classes. I might destroy the movement if I kept it on my wrist. |
