I have all three (SubC, BBN ETA, Explorer "Mk2" lumed 3/6/9)... SubC gets the least wrist time of these 3 watches and Explorer get the most. They are all great watches. For those that say the BBN can't hold its own to the Sub... My BBN is more accurate than my green tag SubC and doesn't have any QA issues like my SubC (slightly misaligned bezel). While the bracelet is not as good on the BBN, mine lives on a NATO so that resolves that. Ultimately the choice is yours and buy what you feel is the best for you and your lifestyle.

Since You already appear in love with the Sub, then You should go for it.
Sincerely I prefer the EXP although I might consider the LV or LB Subs'. The BB Heritage also has a "thing" over my heart. Be it the SS and YG, the Red or the Blue... And if a Green (I do know about Harrod's ones) ever came out I would surely surrender to it :-) |

The EXP is a great watch, but if I had to chose one, I‘d go SUB as well. Simply richer design, always a joy looking at your wrist.

if it's a 114270 or 16610, I'd throw a coin.

Both. Sorry if that's unhelpful, but is it not reasonable to assume you will live long and hopefully prosper? You don't have to buy them both at once. Which one first? That's in the eye and heart of the beholder.

People commonly say that the sub is too ubiquitous. There is a reason for that. I love the explorer, but get the sub.

If it is a new sub at an ad and you dont get it now, it wont be there later. Not even in nfld.
In fact, I'd be surprised if your post here has not resulted in another canadian phoning them and buying it. |

I really like the Explorer and the case size and lack of ceramics are more inline with a proper tool watch. That said, the sub date offers the ability to measure elapsed time and has a date function. Two pretty useful complications the Explorer does not. With smaller collections, function matters.

I had that same dilemma many years ago, ended up with the Explorer. If I had to do it all over again, I would get the sub, especially since you have the chance to get one at MSRP from an AD. The Explorer is a great watch, but I think that it will be easier to acquire later. Everyone always says they're going to buy just 1, but that never happens.
The other thing to throw in there is how do you dress? The Explorer is a great under-the-radar watch which slides under shirt cuffs with ease. |

I bought the 214270 first (turned down a 114060), then added the 114060 later. It depends on what you’re looking for. I personally love the understated nature of the 214270 and the versatility it offers. It truly could be a one watch collection, and for me I cannot say that about the 114060. If it’s “presence” you’re looking for, by all means go for the Sub.
I will add this - for me the 214270 is a far more comfortable wear than the 114060 and it’s not really even close.

I have all 3. If you are sure this will be your only watch. Get the exp1. If not, or like more attention, get the sub. Leave the tudor, to thick and big.
Cant go wrong with both do. |

I pounded my head between this decision as well. Went with the SubC. It just cant be beat. The black dial and ceramic is so sharp and it looks good with everything.

I have both. If I had to choose I’d keep the Explorer 114270.

Great to hear from someone else that subs are becoming available and easier to get. Good for those looking for waiting for one.
For your choice dilemma, the answer is strait forward, the Sub has no rival in your short list, if it's still available, don't wait time, get it. Quote:

Of the rolexs I own, my 214270 Mkii gets the most wrist time. Excellent modern sizing for my wrist with matched comfort. Its not a piece that gets a lot of comments by strangers; A perfect tool watch that is capable both dressed formally & right at home in everyday/field work. Definitely not for everyone & not as common as a Sub.

Sub no date unless you plan on something like a GMT down the line.
If that were the case I'd get a Explorer. But overall I consider the Sub sans cyclops the perfect watch and Explorer the second perfect one. |

First Rolex was the SubC date. Was a very Cool watch, but ultimately I traded it in for the explorer I and have not looked back. You can’t go wrong either way.
