Likely the latter but you never know until it happens.

For the record people were saying that a few years back and since then the price has only become more favorable to buyers. It's a good deal at the current second hand value imho!

Get one because it's unique not for gains.

Unless you would be willing to buy 3 or 4 pieces BNIB, shove them into the safe, and never take them out until their price gets 3 or 4 times than BNIB Milgauss prices now, I would strongly advise putting your investment money elsewhere :) Which may never happen (the value hike), considering the fact that by discontinuing Milgauss this year, would still leave cca. 10 years of production run. Annual sales must be in the tens of thousands, so a modern Milgauss isn't exactly a rare item, even if they never sell any more than what they've already sold by now.

Rolex never says anything until Basel, so it's a rumor. They did do away with the black-dialed Milgauss (non-GV) a couple of seasons ago, leaving the three current models. (And I remember being able to get a discount on it at that time, so not sure what kind of investment it made to buy one prior it being discontinued).

It may turn out to be true, but people are just guessing right now.

I still see black dials in the ADs occasionally. They are always priced the same as a white dial. I don't see it as particularly collectible, and I have one.

Edit: Add gratuitous photo

I wouldn't be surprised if Rolex will discontinue Milgauss and maybe update or replace it. The Faraday cage is old technology compared to the antimagnetic movements that Omega is producing.

I heard from the very same source that the submariner, datejust, and daytona are being discontinued.

This source also said Rolex is ceasing production of watches to make bespoke bobbleheads.

Lol. Black dial was discounted. Who knows about the others. All rumors. They certainly aren't rare.

Bobbleheads? What are you nuts??!?!

I heard they're going to make Omegas because they can't patent them.

Just a rumor. Just sayin'. YMMV.

I'd love it if rumor mongers would post their sources.

I bought a new white dial Milgauss at an AD in 2014 who warned me before I purchased that it was about to be discontinued. In fact, it almost seemed like he was trying to talk me out of the purchase owing to what he was claiming was its "imminent discontinuation".. I kinda think that he's had to deal w/ angry customers in the past who had purchased a new Rolex from him, only to see it get discontinued the following month, and I think he was saying that as a disclaimer (of sorts) to try and avoid that kind of confrontation going forward.

I didn't stop me b/c I was attracted to the piece in part b/c of its (relative) rarity, and I was sort of expecting it to be discontinued anyway (I think the black dial model had just been discontinued around that time).

But that was almost two years ago now, so who knows?

I know that Rolex serial numbers aren't a hard-and-fast rule, but I purchased the piece in 2014 and the serial number on it is a V-serial, which I think places it (roughly) in 2009 or so, if that gives you a sense for how fast these pieces move off the shelves. I've heard some ADs talk about how the white Milgauss is essentially "unsellable", not sure how true that is.

But I'm happy w/ mine, at any rate!

If you're going to relative rarity and future collectibility, the blue-dial green-glass model you're describing is probably your best bet.

Certainly it's had the shortest production run of any of the modern Milgauss', and it's the most unique looking model in the range.

The current Milgauss does not merely rely on a shield, but also anti-magnetic components (hairspring, balance wheel, escapement, pallet for, etc.).

Pure speculation IMO.

If I want to make $ by speculation, I would put it in the stock market. I think the days of PN Daytona, red sub, DRSD are gone.

As stated before, buy it because you like it.

I always thought you had one of the best avatars on TRF, so wanted to comment on that. GMT and Milgauss hands.

Black dial and blue dial GVs and the white dial are on the Rolex website

Think it's safe to assume Rolex are still producing the Milgauss and wont cease production soon

Milgauss investment days are over long time ago. Once upon a time people thought GV is an anniversary model, green crystal were playing hard to get. Now, GV can be obtained casually, ZBlue came out...you are better off getting a Submariner if you are thinking money.

Took my DD in for service, and the Z blue Milgauss called my name. I've wanted one for 20 years, and seeing it with the blue face sealed it for me. Pics don't do the blue face justice.

I took my DD in for service this morning, and walked out with the Milgauss in ZBlue. No mention about the Milgauss being discontinued. I've wanted one for 20 years, and the blue pushed me over the edge. Pics don't do it justice, but here's one:
