Omega or Tag
I am thinking of a new watch, but can't decide between a Tag and an Omega. these are the models I am considering, Model 2254.50.00 (Omega) and this tag Model CAF2010.BA0815 , they are both on alanfurman.com, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Generally speaking, I would as a brand tend to choose Omega over Tag because I think their workmanship is higher and their brand overall is nicer. Tag does a lot of quartz watches, so I tend to think of Omega as being a "purer" mechanical watch company.
If I am not mistaken, you have chosen one of the Omega Divers with the older 1120 movement and a Tag Chronograph? It's harder to rate two different types of watch because my first question would be: what do you need? To time things or to dive and swim? Well, it turns out both are 300m rated, so both can be used in the water. If you are going to use the watch dominantly to swim/dive, I would go Omega because it's always easier to make sure one crown is screwed tight than with one crown and two pushers. The Omega you have picked is not going to be available after this year and since this Seamaster is popular, you might (or might not) get more money for it if you were to sell it later. Many have commented on the dependability of the 1120 movement, although Omega has now upgraded to a movement with a co-axial escapement. The Tag likely has a version of the ETA 7750 or 7751 and this too is a dependable movement. I think both are going to be fine watches, but if it were me, I would prefer the Omega by a large margin and if I were looking specifically for a dive chronograph I would check out the Sinn 203 rather than buy the Tag. Many people do like Tag quite a lot, I guess I prefer some of the other brands because Tag to me has more of a mixed history, but then, so do a lot of brands I guess. Hope this helps a little. |

I have no experience with tag so can't comment there. I must say the 2254 is one fantastic piece.
The sword hands and dial have wonderfull luminosity. The watch, while heavy (compared to some) sits so well on the wrist. The bracelet and clasp are IMO one of the best made combinations out there. I do wish the clasp featured a micro adjustment, but that's just me. As far as accuracy goes, mine is among the most accurate watches I have! I can regulate it with overnight positioning to about +/- 0! Not bad on a NATO too, |

Don't pay any attention to the Christmas packages on the table. My wife had the gall to use my "studio" (dinning room table LOL) to wrap gifts. A portable light box, a mirror tile, canned air (for lint) and a surefire flashlight for lume shots. |

My next watch purchase is going to be the 2254. Hopefully within a few weeks... I need a daily work tool watch and wear my Rolex Day Date on the weekends. |

one more question, since it is automatic, does that mean that the second hands sweep instead of tick?

I've had both, Omega and Tag. In my opinion, Omega is in a whole different league than Tag and I would take the 2254 in a heartbeat.

Omega all the way!
I have a Seamaster and I love it... I tried on this Tag when I bought my Planet Ocean and it felt light and cheap to me. I like heavy watches, since they seem like they are built soild. The Tag in my opinion, was not that flattering in person and on my wrist. The Omega has a great faces and shows well on your wrist. The Tag logo is very small and to the average person they would think it was your typical $200 Seiko. These are just my $.02.

Love the look of the Tag. I have had the Tag CAF1111.BA0803 (Quartz) as an every day wear for over 10 years and is a great watch. Been Scuba diving/wreck diving the entire time without a problem. Never owned an Omega.

I've got a 2nd Gen Omega SMP - Quartz that I wear everyday (I secretly wish it was automatic - but heck it's been a workhorse). It's been a great watch and came back from the Omega Service Center 'good as new' after a mere battery replacement! My wife has 2 Tag Dive watches a SS and a TT that are also very nice.

I'd take the 2254.50 in a heartbeat over any of TAGs current models. Honestly, I think Omega is a notch (or two or three) above TAG. I'd pick up a 2254.50 while you still can. It's a bargain for what you get.
My 2254 on rubber is one of my favorites. Here's mine in Destin Florida a couple months ago. |

I'd go with the Omega over the quartz Tag of which I own three.
Not my watch or pic but love how she looks.

I have both Omega and Tag and personally prefer Omega, the Tag is more hip and they change style very often so the watch becomes absolete pretty quickly. The Omega is more classic.
