The $50.00 Lesson
I recently asked my friend's little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up.. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?' She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.' Her parents just beamed.
'Wow...what a worthy goal', I told her. 'But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.' She thought it over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?' I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party'. Her parents still aren't speaking to me. |

All you generous repugs are welcome to stop the nearest homeless person and offer them $50 to come mow your lawn. A little personal experiment for you to prove your "lazy bums won't get a job" philosophy.
Yeah, that's what I thought. |

The joke is based on a total farce, and doesn't consider the fact that the homeless guy would LEAP at the opportunity to work to earn $50. He's homeless not because he's lazy and waiting for liberals to save him, he's homeless becuase the jobs aren't there to be had. We're nearing 10% unemployment in the U.S., so feel free to do the math.
I'm partially inclined to say the joke insults my intelligence. But, it doesn't, rather it shows the ignorance behind the Repug philosophy at its core. (By the by, "Repug" is my shorthand for "Republican.") |

Regarding the second comment, there's no need to get personal. I have just as much derision for the Left as the Right, as I think both parties wander too far afield and forget that most of us voters are pretty centrist in our views. Mosco, it's not about getting offended, I was just making a point. I don't equate myself to the "liberal parents" in the joke, so I am not offended. But I will note this double standard on the Joke Forum. Jokes here can get pretty outlandish, and often wander well far over the lines of racism, sexism, and good taste. All this is well and good and we all chuckle. But then you get offended if someone points out that a joke is out of line, or stupid, or simply not funny. That doesn't make sense. |

As far as your initial comment - you made your position very clear: REPUGS? I mean -come on. Noone is stupid here. Finally, in my humble opinion, we should end this conversation, even if we agree to disagree - no serious political talk should take place on this forum, in fact, it is against the rules. Now let's have a frothy one!

My Buddy's Dad owns a small construction firm. They hired a homeless guy as a laborer at $9 an hour. He worked one hour, demanded his nine bucks and then left to go buy booze. True story.

The general contractor who renovated our house tells the same stories. He hires these guys, gets them to and from work, and they disappear after the first payday. I'm just sayin... not the case all the time, but it happens. |
