Can gold be polished the same as stainless steel?

I am debating getting a TT Datejust II.

I've had a few highly polished watches.....Cartier, Breitling, Submariner, GMT-Master.....

Great thing about those watches was that if I got normal scratches (not gouges, per se) but scratches from tables, etc.....a polish from a local dealer has made those watches look brand new again for $150.

Can gold be polished like stainless steel or no? I just don't want to get myself into something that it going to be impossible to get re-finished. I had always liked some of Breitling's all-black Blacksteel models but was told the black steel on the bracelets, etc. really can't be polished or even touched up.

Why could you not polish them? On the TT bracelet, the outer SS links are brushed, the Gold links in the center are polished. They are solid gold, not plated. Sure they can be polished.

Gold is considerably easier to polish to a high shine than steel

Gold polishes easily.

However, losing the metal off your gold watch from polishing is a lot more expensive proposition than from a SS model.

Too much polishing for no good reason and you will need to replace the parts. Gold parts are 10x the price of stainless parts.
