Swimming with Patek ? Yes ? Model ?

I am bored at the airport waiting for my flight back home and thought this could be an interesting thread . Maybe you do but not submerge or maybe you are OK with the swimming pool but not OK with the ocean or maybe you are not ok at all ?
If you are Ok , what model ?

Shoot !!!

I think a Nautilus or an Aquanaut is OK. I've worn my Aquanaut AT the pool many times, but not in the water yet. I still have to push myself to let a 20k watch into the water!! Feels odd to me, like it should be treated with a little more grace than to be submersed into the chlorinated pool. I don't ever want my patek experience to start feeling "usual," like I know some people shower with their watches on. Still don't do that either.

I would have no problem swimming with my 5167R or 5711 1A.

I asked Patek regarding 5712 ,they wrote swimming bathing is okay but not jumping from 3m or above :-) i loved that letter it was more like a friendly correspondence than an official statement from an organization.

Would not allow gold to touch a pool. 5167 in steel I can see me going into the pool with it soon, but gold can react with chemicals in strange ways and I just wouldn't do it.

I swim in my 5711, 5164. Don't push the pusher under water on the 5164.

I've gone swimming with my 5711 a couple of times and no problems I'm not a diver so I don't have any info but swimming down 10-12 feet of water my watch was fine.

Remember these watches aren't that delicate.

I swim with my aquanaut. But, take it off and keep in my bath suit pocket during the pool volleyball games.

Thanks for the input guys , I honestly think that if the watch is 120m water resistance (obviously no leather strap) then is really meant for it. IMHO
Cheers !

Jorge,

You can swim with the 5167 without hesitation. Just make sure the crown is properly secured before entering the water. If you swim in salt water place it in a fresh water basin to clean it afterwards.

I would however have the watch pressure checked every year or so which is no different than any other water resistant watch.

Yes I think the 5167A is a better vacation watch than the 5711 mainly because the rubber strap.

I am always much more worried about accidentally brushing my 5164 against the cement of the pool or an unseen piece of coral at the ocean than I am about water infiltration. It's for that reason alone that I chose not to swim with it.

I never intend to swim with my 5712R, but I am curious of how gold can react with chemicals in strange ways ? I just came back from a cruise and saw a lot of folks swimming with a gold Rolex…… what could Happen ?

You might have more action in water than the average person so I can understand your preference to don't swim with it. But I really think that the Aquanaut is the Patek of choice for those activities.

Actually I am gonna take the opportunity of the reply to share a thought. (I might take some heat on this, but oh well…)
Usually people think of Nautilus and Aquanaut as sport watches. I say the Aquanaut (Rubber) is the only sport Patek(or the closest). To me the Nautilus line is not a 100% sport watch, I would call it more a Casual wear Patek. Yes it has the water resistance of a Sport watch but it's more delicate than one. Even the Aquanaut someone could argue that the movement is not sturdy enough for a Sport watch, but its the closest Patek has.

Get the 5167 for all around watch, the 5711 is beautiful but wouldn't be my 1st choice watch to take to the beach. But again a lot of folks do it.

I don't think patek has a sports watch in the manner Rolex or even AP does either. The finish on the bezel is asking to be a canvas for all your WIS shortcomings.

That said, I love the 5167 and don't really see a difference between it and nautilus in terms of wearability for sporting activities. I say this because scratches on the bezel are painful to me, whereas scratches on a bracelet are expected to me.

It's not so much the gold itself but the alloy the gold is made with. Rose Gold has 22.5% copper in it. Copper and chlorine do not react well together. If you rinse your watch thoroughly I imagine there will never be an issue, I just wouldn't make a habit of it in a $30,000+ watch.

I really don't understand the subject
All the Patek Nautilus and aquanaut clollection is waterproof and can be used for swimming in pool or sea, and even snorkeling
You may use gold in a swimming pool and even platinum
I used my platinum 5711 in a pool and in the Ocean, and the watch was not in molten metal
I never hearded, and there is a lot, an gold Rolex owner who had physical reaction with his watch in a pool
You perhaps argu that Patek is more subject to scratch especially in the brush parts but that all
Use them like a Rolek and, like Rolex, give them to Patek for polishing or for metal laser recharging

I used my 5712/1A last month during a 4-day business trip to Bangkok. Swimming in the hotel pool for 20' every early am, no issues whatsoever to this day.

I would feel more comfortable with a 5711 or 5726 (both rated 120m), but when I ordered the watch earlier this year I had the option and made my choice based on what I value most: Cal. 324 vs micro-rotor / case thickness options / complications on the dial / precious metal or not / metal bracelet or leather + composite straps duo.

In my opinion, the Nautilus makes a perfect all-around timepiece that can be worn 24/7 at home or while traveling. The offerings on bracelet/straps and the alternative dial options make it a highly versatile watch, the epitome of quality on a slightly less "tool watch" designation (as compared to Rolex).
