I'm thinking it's a trolls or previously banned members tactic???

Membership backdated, tricking some, into thinking they're not who they are.

Results normally end up being banned/caught again.....

When I see a longer termed with one or two posts, I sometimes become suspicious, it's my nature I suppose.

I get it..
However, the general user has no option to amend or change their join date.
These are generally inactive accounts that have been phished.

Yep, scammers will often phish old accounts that haven't been used for a while, then invest in a $30 pledge and try and "sell" from that account. They will also set up other accounts to provide "feedback" from "buyers". If you ever see a years-old account suddenly posting 30 times an hour to build post count, let us know.
