Counterfeit Diagnosing:banghead:

Hey guys!

I have been watch trading for a few years now. What is everyone's practice of knowing a fake from and authentic one? I almost was sold a fake one recently and it was a really good fake?! I am just wondering what everyones practices? I know you can take to a authorize store but is there any other techniques you all use?

Most watches have a cover on the back thats removable. I think its reffered to as the case back, you unscrew or sometimes pop open that back cover revealing what's inside. Then do a little comparison of dials and such.

+1 unless buying vintage/discontinued. A private seller with a certificate of authenticity from a watchmaker goes a long way.

You have been trading for a few years now, how did you spot the fake? No need to go into details of the fake but what did you do to identify it.

Something seemed off and so we went to a dealer where they verified it was fake. The seller got really upset and swore he thought it was authentic. Im glad we met up at a store which is why I believed him and felt bad for him.

Loupe, caseback opener, endlink pin tool, correct size precision flatheads to name a few tools necessary to inspect a watch. Looking at the movement and the balance wheel will be the most important components to check.

Easy — no tools, no sleepless nights, no hassle. Just buy from ADs or unimpeachable sellers like the boutiques here.

So I'm confused here? You want someone who knows next to nothing about spotting a fake, to attempt to open a watch and inspect it's movement? Very bad idea....
