Exhibition models in Canada

Just wanted to pass this on to my Canadian peeps.

I was at my AD the other day (GTA) and was told to expect exhibition models in January. I know they have been available in the US and Europe for some time I guess they finally made it to Canada… Finally able to at least check out all the models in person…

I don’t think anyone has posted this yet (did a search).

As someone in the states who’s been seeing exhibition models for a while- I can tell you it’s not something to be excited about lol.

85% of people if not more are just trying on watches they will more than likely never be able to acquire at MSRP

HE knows how true this is !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The more this goes on, the more and more 'potential customers' will get a bad taste for the brand.

Amusing.

I'd rather see display models than empty display cases. At least you can see the product, try them on, and have something to talk about

The display model isn’t new. For decades the mobile phone industry and many other industries have created mock-ups of their products so that people can get an idea of size and feel of the product. We’ve all seen these mobile phone that have a fake screen with an image below the glass. Right?

I agree it’s more shocking where Rolex is concerned, in so much as change is always ill received. Rolex has moved upmarket and as such it’s products are the stuff of legendary status all of a sudden

KNAR in Oakville but I imagine they will be coming to Canada as a whole at some point. As Brian said I think it will at least be nice to try them on and see what they look like in person. Unlike some on this forum who always need instant gratification I don’t mind waiting in line for my next one. This way I can see which of the GMTS, Kermit, Or Skydweller will hopefully be next

I agree. At least you can get an idea for how the watch looks and feels on your wrist. There have been several times that I lusted over a watch on the internet only to go try it on and find that I do not like it as much.

Yes, I'm interested in a SD43 but some say the small case back is not comfy. I'd like to try one on first.

Indeed, and I'd rather buy a watch which wasn't tried on by dozens of unlikely customers.

Funny how there's excitement on exhibition models showing up in ADs.

I've seen these exhibition models at my ADs, and it already feels old to me.

I was in New York last month and visited four AD’s with exhibition models hoping to see a Coral Red OP in any size just to see it in different lighting. All four of them had the same models, no red OPs and far from the full line of watches. Better than nothing I guess but I expected more range.

Guess you don't buy Grey then, huh?!

I wish an AD around my area would have exhibition watches. Would be good to actually be able to compare two or more watches before going into the insane "save up, beg my AD for it for two years, only to finally get the call, try it on, and hate it and say no thank you" cycle. Now THAT'S insane...

I've been trying to decide on my next purchase - a YM 37 or YM 40. I tried the 40 on and it seemed a little big. Two years later I was able to find a 37 to try on and it seemed a little small. Now was the 37 smaller than the 40 was larger? Uh, I don't remember. Better wait two more years to find a 40 to try on again... Yeah, that's fun - talk about getting me to hate the brand, THAT's how to do it!

Back a few years when there sometimes were watches at the ADs, I was able to try on what I thought was my Grail watch - the Skymaster. Hated it, just too big for my skinny wrist. So it's off my list, and I don't have to lust after it and be frustrated I can't buy it!

At least they get a chance to try them on regardless of where they would otherwise buy them. My buddy was super interested in the 36mm Explorer, but tried it on and it was just too small on his wrist. I get everyone's frustration, but giving people the chance to at least see them in person before they buy them is better than just empty cases and pictures online.

Well if I was paying grey prices I would definitely want to try it on. Hell of a lot less hassle trying a dummy on in the store than buying a grey online and returning it.
