Having a lot of time to re-evaluate my collection in 2020, there were a couple of changes. I missed having a Panerai, so in came an old-school decorated 112, but most satisfying was a a Franck Muller I lusted after 20 years ago, but could never afford. Now languishing somewhere below (you fill in the gap) in popularity, you get a lot of watch for the money.

My perfect two watch collection complete in 2021 - hard to pick which of the two was “most satisfying”. The Daytona I’ve been wanting since 2018 (SS or WG) when SS was 15-17k/WG was below retail. When I was finally ready to celebrate a milestone promotion, couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger. Come end of 2020 for another milestone promotion, registered interest for the WG Daytona again and picked up a Lange 1 MP. Long road, but these two watches cover those milestones and most occasions I wear them for. The Oysterflex allows me to wear the Daytona on absolutely anything casual, with the Lange covering my other needs. Overall, was patient and had a fun journey. I wear both in rotation, 7 days a week. No wrist time for the others.

Patek 5235R - Just amazed that you can get this for more than 10K under list.
Considering what this watch offers: movement made for the model (rare for Patek), 1st true hacking movement (non-chrono), Spiromax, Pulsomax, historically accurate regulator design, Annual Calendar, and outstanding legibility thanks to use of white lacquered hands (like FP Journe CB). - The watch is beautiful, with less controversial colors that the original WG version had. The ghosted brand name is very cool. - It is also very accurate and the 40.5 mm size is not too big. - The micro-rotor movement is nicely finished and allows full-viewing of the caliber. - Annual calendar works well and, whilst symmetry with dial is not perfect, it blends in very well and is easy to read like the time. - Will never understand how buyers will slurp their sports watches with an underwhelming 324 movement, whilst ignoring this stunning piece. In any case, better for me. |

Great idea for a thread
Granted we are talking about 2021, 2020 was my busiest year ever with 7 new additions but in the spirit of the thread 2021 was my most “heavy” and rewarding Can’t pick just one but these 2 changed my outlook significantly in 2021

These were satisfying in very different ways:
This one, because it is my first Patek and I feel significantly more "focused" going forward: This one, the OF, because it is just a joy to wear: |

Black Daytona in honor of the birth of my son. That it also helped mark my 40th and a promotion was nice too. But maybe those should justify some other acquisitions lol.

Two purchases standout this year.
First is my California dial PAM424. Traded a bronze IWC Spitfire and couldn’t be happier. Earlier this year, I saw the Hermes H08 online from Watches & Wonders and registered interest with my local Hermes store. Trying it on I knew it was coming home with me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It has been quite a year for new watches but YTD definitely the RM and maybe the RG jumbo a close second, however that might change here end of Nov, early Dec. Should be an interesting closeout to the year.

For wristwatches....
This might seem like a weird pick; this was a slow year. Will try to do a bit 'better' for 2022. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful timepiece, and historic too as the world's first METAS-certified non-Omega. Wears well and very accurate too. Wish I had a pic of the movement, it really is quite lovely in that badarse kinda way. I'm stealing a movement pic. 248898166_2282933438509691_1047766778410371085_n.jpg

Actually non-watch I got a 997 turbo this year so that might trump the Daytona lol. And that is called an analog car… but yeah I think not compared to a Diablo! Wish I didn’t have to resize pics off phone. |
