Not true what about the thousands of manual wind watches with screw down crowns Rolex included, they got wound up daily for many many years without problems. And crowns and crown tubes are just serviceable items, that are often replaced at service, crown tubes are always replaced.

If you change out your watch every day or so the winder is a good idea. If you don’t then by the time you put it on, it will be so far off time wise you’ll need to reset it anyway. As far as wearing it out, that won’t happen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I’ve never sent a watch for repair because I wore it out, I did send one in because the crown stripped out. That’s not anecdotal evidence. If someone kept their watches on a winder and wore them all out I’d like to hear the story. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

No for me. I enjoy setting and winding a watch that has stopped.
Yes for my dad. He's 72 and it's easier for him to grab a watch and go.

The only time I’ve considered it is when I pull out my 60s datejust, and curse when I have 20+ days to advance on the date wheel.
Solution has been to wait a half a month or spend the few mins. |

I love mine for display purposes and to be able to grab and go. This topic gets debated frequently with no consensus. While the excessive “wear and tear” intuitively makes sense, the effects on the watch mechanisms may be exaggerated. I’ve had service on a watch maybe 10-15 times. I’ve never seen “excessive wear” or anything like that on the assessment. The only consistent thing is “dried oils” which is a whole other discussion. They often replace the crowns even though I keep mine on a winder. Since my watches are on my winder, I rarely use the crowns to adjust the time and date (maybe once every couple of months). And I’ve never seen a recommendation that says anything like “to prolong the life of your watch, do not wear it every day or store it for a few weeks at a time.” Could you imagine buying a Submariner and the AD saying something like “enjoy your watch, but remember to give it a break every now and then by letting it rest for a couple weeks.”

Been using them for 30 years. Never been a problem. I like to grab and go.

Exactly... I swap out daily in a rotation so the first watch in that rotation will have been long dead before it makes it back on my wrist. There are no issues with using a winder, like I had mentioned... three hours on... in both directions... nine hours off.

Yes. I have too many non-quick sets to rotate through. No problems in over 12 years

Love my winder. Hate on the run having to adjust the date. No issues over 15 years. Good watches are good watches.

To me it's all personal preference and the option to buy more toys for our watches.
I guess they are handy to some and especially for perpetuals, but for me it's just more junk in the house and stuff to go wrong and need repair or replacing. Early on I had a cheap one and just found it unnecessary. Of course it broke in a year or so. Remember in this strange hobby there are people with tons of money and buy all sort of toys. Nothing wrong with that. |

You're talking about keeping the battery charged. Which is not really relatable to anything. (perhaps a trickle charger for your quartz watch?) Bottom line is, use winders or don't. You get to choose. |
