I'm a big fan of the iPod shuffle too. I bought a few backup units. But they are actually more expensive now that they have been discontinued.

I also bought a pair of Sony WF SP 900. Great because they are waterproof and can play music without being paired to a phone.

But I don't enjoy running with them. They wobble too much. And the sound quality was disappointingly poor for the price.

Such a shame that Apple discontinued them, they must think that everyone prefers to use their phone nowadays, but a phone is just too bulky...

I will try and get a NOS shuffle unit as a backup

What podcasts do you listen to, Bas?

I typically listen to Jo Rogan Experience and Marathon Training Academy when running.

Joe Rogan is pretty much the only podcast I listen to

Thank you guys, will check out the suggestions made. The Bose Soundsports seem to be a TRF favorite.

Jabra elite active - comfortable, good sound, good battery life, and never drops connection. I use it when I run with my phone in a pocket, and at the gym where I sometimes put my phone down as far as 30 feet away from me

I use Beats X or my Campfire Audio Polaris IEMs for workout. The Beats will fit any ear, but it's trial and error to get tips that fit your particular ear canal the best. The Polaris has a pretty big shell with edges, so it's not as comfortable, but the sound is better.

I use silicone tips and am in between sizes. I've found Spinfit to be the most comfortable. With small tips they stay in but are not perfectly sealed, so I can hear outside sounds. Tradeoff is bass is lacking. With medium tips I get a better seal with great bass, but can't hear squat from the outside world. Foam tips sound the best but are not good with sweaty ears.

As another poster mentioned, custom fit IEMs are the best, but be prepared to pay handsomely.

AirPods and Apple’s wired earbuds do well enough in that regard.

Does anyone recall the first portable speakers that predated the iPod/MP3 stereo earbuds?

I remember that product, or something very similar to it, from back in the 80’s!
I think the one I recall was called something like “Dog Bones”, or similar. That was a lonnnng time ago!

Thread bump.

I smoked my Airpod 1's last week and decided to get the new Airpod Pro's w/noise cancelation. Also wanted extended battery life as my old ones were tapping out at about an 1.5 hours.

The new Airpods have a transparency setting so you can still hear your surroundings or shut them out with the push of a button.

Noise cancelling and running sounds like an accident waiting to happen... Be careful!

Been hearing (pun) good things about the Pro noise cancelling while the transparency setting does allow ambient sounds to pass through.

I may try these for cycling (on carriage path) now that they have silicone earbud tips.

That's the point of the transparency setting, you can toggle back and forth between noise canceling and not.

Shure KSE1500, 64 Audio Tia Fourte, Campfire Audio Andromeda, Ultimate Ears Reference Remastered, the list goes on
You can spend several thousand USD on a single pair of IEMs
