Anniversary Ideas?

My wife and I are coming up on our 2nd anniversary & unfortunately her birthday and of course thanksgiving are all within the same weekly span.

We got married after five years of dating & two years of friendship before that, so the usual celebration involved a dinner someplace or a trip to a spa.

I tried looking for online references, but of course popular media is expecting grandiose trips abroad or bucket list type excursions.

How have you all celebrated non-milestone (ie large or rounded numbers like 5th, 10th, etc)?
Are there any unspoken rules?

Generally I always ask her unless it's really special. Or suggest something and see if it's a possibility.

Of course if you get the, "oh, nothing special" response. It's back to square one.

One thing to consider is to start your own traditions. And that has to be talked about and agreed upon.

I buy my wife and her closest friends dinner and insist she goes out for a fun night with them.

She sees enough of me and doesn't need to be reminded she could've done better.

We usually sneak out to one of our favorite nearby destinations or if busy our favorite restaurant.

1/how about taking her in a hot air balloon ride, sunset and champagne, followed by a nice dinner in the wine country.
2/ weekend in BigSur.
3/ weekend in Santa Barbara + local wine tasting. Dinner at the wince cast.
4/ weekend in Pasadena, stay at the Langham Hotel ( actually where I got married), they have spa service as well. Of course dinner at the Royce.

The going back to square one is definitely more frequent nowadays. Thanks for the tip about traditions— never even occurred to me!

These are excellent, thank you! This year I moved to Denver but we still do semi annual trips out to SoCal (I love the snow and the mountains here, but SoCal is definitely still home to me).

I’m definitely adding these to the “must experience” list I have going.

I always send flowers to my wife at work, go out for a nice dinner and get her a gift (nothing crazy). This keeps me out of the penalty box for a little while.

Last year was 10 years and our plans went a little haywire so doing special this year. Headed to our usual Christmas destination in Naples Florida which piggybacks our anniversary. Gonna do the vow renewal thing with our two young daughters (5 and 8) on a private beach. Having rings made for the 4 of us to exchange and my wife is thrilled to go dress shopping for her and the girls.
They'll all get their hair and makeup done in the morning and then off to the beach!
All part of the plan when I spring the GT3 RS I wanna buy in the spring.
