For the runners/athletes: Best in-ear headphones?

Frequent use, focus on sound quality and good fit. No matter if wired or BT, what´s your recommendation?

I use a simple iPod shuffle with apple headphones. Used them for 8 years and still going strong. I only listen to podcasts during running these days though. (I run 50-100km a week, depending on the upcoming event).

I like the Bose - the little rubber gromet holds them perfectly in my ears.

I like the apple ones, partly because I can still hear outside sounds. Cars and if another cyclist/runner is near. They seem to fit my ear and have yet to fall out.

This exactly! Hearing your surroundings is very important and is a big reason I still use the apple ones.

Safety first, always

Bose soundsport free wireless. I tried AirPods and beats - they were terrible in comparison.

I never dreamed of listening to music while I run; I prefer to live in the moment. I live in the countryside where there are a lot of natural sights and sounds. Being an ex-athlete in an endurance sport, I am always monitoring everything from stride to relaxing different body parts. I know, some of us are strange!

Using B&O Beoplay E8 here, sound is quite good compared to some wired earplugs unless the earplugs are driven by a dedicated headphone amplifier. So I'd say the E8 are quite decent. Good highs without sounding bright with good and deep bass notes.

Like most BT headsets they do suffer from slight, occasional dropouts but I think it's not so bad.

I LOVE the Sound Sports. I am constantly doing sprints, box jumps, jump rope, handstands, and muscle up and these are the only things that have stayed in and needed no adjustment.

The best $39 I've spent when it comes to workout gear.

Nothing EVER stays in my ear, and these amazingly do. They also sound great (comparable to Bose and B&O) and are very comfortable...why spend any more money than you have to?

I’ve always used the ones that wrap over the ear completely and just tried these from Skullcandy. I’ve had it a few months and it’s been great. I’m more concerned with fit and staying in the ear than sound quality.

I've always used Skull Candy but I'm currently looking to find a good pair of wireless.
I'll have to check out some from the posts above.

These have worked excellent for me, I like the over the ear, as the the ones that just sit in the ear, typically fall out when I run. I went thru 2 pairs of beats II and both quit on me. These are easy to use while running also...volume, mute, skip to next track, etc....

I found the Apple shape did not agree with my ear canal. I picked up a relatively cheap bluetooth set, Jaybird x3 I think. They stay put while I run and do weights, so no complaints from me. I have to recharge after about 6-8 hours of playback I think.

Bose Soundsports (the one that connects the buds with the wire). I found this to be the best fit for me (Apple AirPods don’t fit my ear). Good sound and durable.

Another vote for Bose soundsport. I use them all the time for running, walking, sometimes just to listen to music. I have the ones that are wire connected to each other (but Bluetooth to the phone) and they have been the best headphones for activity I have ever had.

Can you still hear your surroundings? I might need an alternative to my iPod for if it bites the dust.

Yes Bas, my Bose QC 35s cut out outside noise, but the sound sports make music sound great and you can still hear “outside” noise (usually me gasping for air).

Best is custom in-ear monitors like you see musicians wear on stage. Everything else is a compromise in both fit and sound quality.

Curious - do those typically have water resistance ratings, as many of the aforementioned sports headphones do?

What do you know!?!? Your headphones are so bad they make your head bounce from side to side!

Buying these right now! I have had a couple of the cheap pair from Amazon because I live in Seattle and run outside all year so a lot of mine sets get wet and they end up dying so the cheaper the better!

Thanks!

My shure in ear buds are great - I use foam tips which need replacing periodically but for fit, comfort and sound insulation they are fabulous.

Best audio perhaps. But a runner, bike or walker must get a health % of ambient sound for safety.

AirPods and Apple’s wired earbuds do well enough in that regard.

Does anyone recall the first portable speakers that predated the iPod/MP3 stereo earbuds?

Never had a problem and have drummed for hours with them in. Obviously not for swimming. F1 drivers use custom fit, bet they sweat big time when wearing theirs. Going custom is the way to go, and I've had many lamestream universal fit ones over the past 30 years.

Think of it along the lines of a fine M2M suit, or custom shoes, or custom race car seat fitting for a Formula car.

Once you go custom, off-the-shelf works ok, sure, but you know it's a shadow of what's truly possible.

77T, reminds me of Radio Shack Bonephones, works off bone conduction.

But, ok, there are cheap good ones too for disposal use after a month or five...

For cheap $14 throw aways that sound good, here you go https://amzn.to/2YlmbmZ
