Golf GTI

Hey guys, I am in the market for a second car and it has to be sporty, reasonably priced and able to fit 2 child seats in the back seat.

I recently drove the Golf GTI with the DSG transmition and was blown out of the water. The car is deceptively quick and is relatively practical. It has also won numerous car awards here in Aus.

Do any of you own a GTI? How have you found the reliability performance, especially past the warranty period? Any issues with the DSG and the transmission paddles?

Hey mate...My wife has the GTi and I have the R32..

We love them....the GTi is an incredible car for the price...reliable..fast...great handling...lovley finish. No issue ... 2 years old now from new. The handling and grip is what makes this car...and it's plenty roomy - we only have one child.

BUT: The R32 is an absolutely OUTSTANDING car....all wheel drive...3.2 V6 power-plant...and it shifts....great sound...incredible brakes....fantastic interior...I got it pre-owned...have had it for a couple years....70,000 kms on the clock and runs like a dream. I have had numerous cars in this class...and this outstrips them all...if you can find one I cannot recommend them enough

either way you will not be disappointed....

The R32 is a beast! Sweet sweet sounding exhaust and awesome performance. Have you got a Mark IV or V, Dalip?

GTIs are practical pocket rockets, they look classy enough with the performance to match. My mate has a Mark IV modded GTI which respond very well to mods (eg: ECU chips, exhaust system). A very well rounded performance car.

Hey fellows,

Check out the VW forums, the guys over there are pretty well-versed in their VW. They are kind of like the TRF for VW!

i test drove a new GTI last month, it blew me out of the water, it was perfect and super quick. I owned a 1984 GTI and that was the best car i have ever owned. I just cant get away from the japanese cars for reliability aspect, they are no fun to drive. German cars are so fun.
