Am I out of my mind to let this extremely rare BP go???

I’ve decided to change up my collection fairly drastically. I’m in the process of selling off quite a few pieces, including some hard to find ones. I’ve been on the fence of letting go of my extremely rare Blancpain Bathyscaphe in ceramised titanium. There were only 50 made at the initial release of the modern Bathyscaphe in 2014. I’ve never seen another one on any forum or market. I rarely wear it nowadays but I’ve been very reluctant to sell it as it’s so rare I’ll never find another one. However, seems wasteful to have it in the collection to only wear it occasionally.

Would love some feedback from members on what you would do in my position.

P.S. I'll say also that a person can love a watch, but wear it rarely. In that case, the answer would be different.

That’s a really good observation and point. I do think the Bathyscaphe is a stunning watch, especially this version. The depth of darkness with the dial contrasting against the matte case is beautiful. I love the way the indices have a subtle pop of bling when caught by light. In general, Blancpain is one of my favorite watch brands. I think the main reason I don’t wear it often is that it’s a tad bigger than I like, specifically the lug to lug length. I go through cycles where I love it and wear it, then where I think it’s too big and don’t wear it for extended periods. As I’m cleaning up my watch collection, I’m trying to decide what stays and what goes. This one causes me to struggle with a decision.

I had one of the first early ones too in that material. With a watch like that, I doubt anyone cares about that distinction, only the craziest BP fan within a small pool of BP fans to begin with. If not wearing, I’d sell

Think of it like a dress watch. You keep it not to wear it all the time, but to have it at hand when you feel the need to wear it. I don't think you should sell a watch that you like even a little if it's DIFFICULT or impossible to buy again. As long as you wear it, I don't think it's a question if you would sell it or not. Mostly, if you do not need the money at all.

I also have - mostly not too expensive - watches that I almost never wear, partly because they are so rare and that's why I am "afraid" of harming them. But when I look at them, I know I'd miss them if they weren't in their places.

However, what I put out from there, I know I won't wear them again, so I will sell them without hesitation. The interesting thing is, that in this case the question is quite the opposite, but still the same: In this case, why should I keep them?

It is just a watch and even being somewhat rare it does not move the needle for me or many other collectors. While very cool and limited I would move it along for a watch or watches I would wear.

Thank you all for your insight. A lot of great, helpful points for me to consider. Sometimes we collectors get stuck in a narrative to justify a purchase or sale, or why it makes sense to hoard more watches than any one person should own. It’s great to get outside perspectives from like minded individuals.
