Best Way To Source Watches

I would like to start collecting and reselling. What are some good sites to find watches to fix and resell or just do arbitrage?

Appreciate any information!

You don’t know where to buy watches but think you’ll somehow be successful flipping them?

This is a forum for Rolex enthusiasts, not a place for flippers looking to make a few measly bucks to gather intel.

Good luck. It’s a risky proposition.

Why do you say that? Thanks for response!

Is it more profitable to repair and restore first?

Many people have heard that there is a lot of money to be made in watches, but the truth is that the opportunity to consistently do this is small. There has been a bubble (largely covid related) that has given a false impression recently, but things are slowly returning to normal

You either need to be buying high demand pieces at retail price and then flipping (e.g panda, Pepsi, etc)….i won’t go into detail about how annoying I find this…. However to get these at retail you need a long purchase history of spending lots of money consistently at the AD just to get a chance to buy one of these at retail without waiting years…. Additionally, if the ADs suspect you are flipping them then your supply will dry up… so this isn’t really a viable long term model…. Finally, to sell at a good price you need a proven reputation, and likely come recommended…. And this takes a long time and far more work than people assume.

The other option is to buy watches in a poor condition and refurbish them, but this is not simple… you really need to know what you are doing because you need to really know what you are buying and also because it’s much easier to devalue a vintage watch than it is to make it much better…. And even then, if you want to get a good price then you need a solid reputation as a trustworthy seller…. Hence the saying “buy the seller, not the watch”.

Honestly, if it was easy to do then everyone would be doing it… but it’s not simple, it requires knowledge, experience and expertise… otherwise it’s just pure speculation and luck… the people’s who successfully do it really know their stuff and have built excellent reputations and relationships over a long period of time.

plenty of watches are poorly listed on ebay - there are gems out there - finding and repairing them is possible.......is there a profit to be made? Maybe

Look to Moda, that is as close to dealer pricing you will get short of going to the watch shows.

To source watches you have to buy them individuals willing to sell them at used wholesale prices. As a startup you would have to offer more for product and sell under the market which means operating on a paper-thin margin. A few upside-down deals and you are out of the business. Buying from sites, would be paying used retail for product with no profit potential at all.

Rolex and Bitcoin don’t make you a watchmaker.

Your chances of making it as a watch dealer without any SM are 0.00%. Stick to BTC.

Welcome to the forum. By now you’ve heard some opinions about your chances without us hearing your plan.

You mentioned two strategies:
1-Buy low because a watch needs repair; fix it; sell it at a profit.
2-Arbitrage buying in a market then flipping nearly simultaneously in a different one to profit from unequal prices.

So how much capital will you risk?
Is this to be a side hustle or are you depending on income?
Have you already had success doing this in other markets like financial, real estate, technology?

These might help others provide additional informed thoughts.
