Your thoughts on this

Hi all,
New to vintage collecting and was considering this:

http://www.capetownstore.com/Merchan...Category_Code=

I would really appreciate your collective wisdom and experience on whether this is accurate and a good starter.

Thank you all in advance.

and it looks polished.

The dial looks fairly nice, but the band, hands and bezel insert have been replaced. Also, the box is incorrect for the watch (late 1970's). As far as being polished, the case appears to be in excellent condition and for a 45-year-old watch, it is hard to find one with an unpolished case and still be in good condition.

I would think that a price closer to $5,000 would be more reasonable.

Scans are too small, but from what I can see, the dial looks correct for 1967. I do not believe it has been refinsihed, but I do believe it has been relumed.

IMHO for that money you can do a lot better - agree with Greg - amongst other things not liking the polish at all - look at the crown guards - very pointy and lugs arent far behind....

To share some of my concerns based on my limited knowledge, I couldn't tell whether the watch dial has been replaced or the photo touched up as it looked too "clean".

The hour markers and hands look perfectly new as noted by Vlad.

I'm also not sure where to look for a better one and have been reading on the vintage sellers on another thread.

My preference is leaning towards one made in 1967

again with the dial. I couldn't tell if it was cleaned or redone, it definatley looks relumed though(glowing dots) the case looks good but it looks excessively polished to me(almost all of these that you find are going to be polished but this one looks like it has been alot.) and the price isn't the best. If you want a 1967 get a 1967, I personally just believe your money could go alot further with a different watch. and with so much stuff being unoriginal/restored the watches collectibility value diminishes quite a bit.

Regarding my previous comment, I really didn't look at the crown guards very well. It is definitely over-polished there which detracts substantially from the value. The lugs are not that bad, but the crown guards would make me look further at additional ones for sale.

Pics are kind of photoshopped, which makes giving out reliable opinions very difficult. One cannot see the nuances of the dial. As said by other posters, case is way over polished. I'd definitely pass.

Even the bezel's coin edge looks to be highly polished.

Wonder about "Luminescent Hour Markers" in the write-up. Assuming this is why others say the dial was replaced or re-lumed? Just looked at the bad pics again. Agree with others "overpriced" for the condition.

As with the earlier ebay watch commented on by "Springer" this last watch has had a
multitude of changes, dial , hands bezel and strap, most likely in a service which I think makes it no longer a late 60's watch really and pricey for what it is....
IMHO

Thanks. I can see some changes to the watch but at what point is considered "pricey"?

Thank you!
At least now I'm in the right ball park so it's a little encouraging that I can apply some of the sub details knowledge that I've gleaned from the forum members. Now to work on the price.

Just look for previously sold 67 subs, look at conditions of them and keep a price list and condition. then when you find "the one" see how it compares pricewise and offer accordingly.
