Ladies Rolex Montres 1400 - Service

Just received a vintage Rolex ladies 1400, model 8273/7 as a gift (not functional). Local jeweler sent it to Rolex for service/repair estimate ... they want $987 (Factory Movement Service is $750). Being new in this arena, I need to be careful.

Web searches indicate a value in the $2000 to $3000 range for similar watches in good running condition, so I'm reluctant to spend this much on mine. Although the Rolex USA paperwork indicates replacement value at $12,000 (!!??)

How can I evaluate this watch? Are there good, less costly options for service/repair?
