So I dropped my Datejust on the kitchen ceramic floor and the case got scraped and dinged along with one bracelet link getting scraped. I plan on servicing my watch next year so I’m really not too upset, however, I actually feel lucky because the damage could have been worse (crystal, crown, etc) and I wanted to share my little scare.

Ouch! Sorry to see. Looks like they’ll need to laser weld and obviously repolish to get the geometry back.

But doesn’t look like anything that can be repaired. Good luck.

Leave such experiments for the professionals. The result seems all right actually. Monitor the time keeping.

It's not that hard to drop it, when you pick it up, put it down, cleaning it ecc.

That is not bad at all. Just about every watch I've seen hit the floor gets picked up with a broken crystal.

I was at a Tourneau last weekend and a client dropped a stainless datejust on the floor and smashed the crystal.

How does it work in that scenario? Break it buy it?

OP itll polish out, the likes are not as crisp as the subs so its easier to polish out

If at all possible handle the watch over a bed or soft surface. When handling the watch always put your fingers through the watch and lock fingers with bracelet in between.
Even with all that stuff happens. Sorry op

I challenge every single watch owner has dropped or come close to dropping their watch at some point.

It happens - I've done it. Once. Then I learned to be a little more aware of my surroundings. That's the beauty of Rolex watch: you can get away with little mishaps or close calls. Sometimes.

Hope the repair goes well and you attitude is commendable. Everthing will be fine.

My SS GMT II slipped into the garbage disposal one day and I turned it on. What an awful sound! Ugh! Sent it in to rolex and they did a nice job of leveling, then buffing out the gouged portion of the case.
That watch is now 32 years old and runs like a champ.
My Scottish terrier chewed part of the clasp on my 18kt GMT w/Jubilee bracelet and it too was buffed out nicely

Yes I wonder too what happened. I have often wondered what would happen in this scenario. I have a hard time believing that Rolex can make someone pay for a watch that they might not even be able to afford. A lot of tire kickers. I have to believe they have insurance for such scenarios. Still curious though.

I was drying it after a cleaning and got distracted while walking in the kitchen. I’ve always been conscious about not dropping a watch but it happened and it made my wife laugh

Worst drop I ever experienced was also while drying. Like you, I was lucky, and only suffered a small ding; however, it serves as a reminder for me to be careful.

Sorry that it happened but you have a good outlook on it. When you decide to send it to Rolex it will get repaired.

I've trained myself to kick in the direction of the 'landing spot' if I drop anything. Mostly it's my phone but works for anything. The object then hits my foot and goes clattering across the floor instead. No big impact but possibly a few scratches.
