Information needed - Rolex 6085 Cloisonne dial

Hello, everyone,

First of all, thank you for the quick reception. A good friend asks me to get some information about the following watch. It is an old Rolex 6085 with a Cloisonne dial. It comes from the estate of his father, who was an antique dealer. The watch was built in 1953 and was in revision in 2016. A warranty card from 2016 exists, the revision report was lost by my friend when he moved. But we will request it again from the concessionaire at that time. My friend would like to sell his watch now, but does not know the value of the watch. We have done some research but didn't find out much. Especially there is some information about the dial. If it is one of the dials made by Mrs Koch, the value of the watch should be very high. But we also found out that there are so-called aftermarket dials which reduce the value of the watch. How can the original dial be distinguished from the aftermarket dial? Maybe the experts here on site can give you some information. Thank you very much. And sorry for the bad English. I work with a translator program.

Probably the first step in authenticating the dial should be to compare every detail of it to a known example with good provenance. Antiquorum had one in their Geneva auction on November 14, 2009 as lot 346, and they had a very high quality photograph which could be used for the first comparison. They said this design of dial was called the "Caravelle" and it was only one of three believed to have been made by Marguerite Koch for Stern Freres in the early 1950s.

If it looks genuine from this examination it would be worth getting the dial removed from the movement to see if it is signed by both the artist and the dial maker.

The third step would be to have an expert such as one of the auction house valuers look at it and give an opinion.
