Am surprised that for such a wealthy and popular show featuring luxury goods that they do not offer a live stream. What is this, 2010?

Live stream benefits the show, their exhibitors, and of course watch enthusiasts. Interviews, products announcements, manufacturer features... there's many ways to bring Baselworld show up to at least modern 2015 standards of what a major show should offer their clients and audience. In a sense, it is not fair to exhibitors, let alone enthusiasts, that there's no live stream.

Ah well, maybe next year... if there's a Baselworld next year.

i don't think there was a poll when I left my Jersey comment. Anyhow, I've never gone. If there was an option for "never been, one day though". That'd be me.

Never been but would love to go. The few close friends of mine that are watch guys were just talking about maybe making the trip for it next year.

I've asked before but never really got a response on this. For us ordinary folks attending as "observers" what is a typical day there like? Also interested in what someone has already asked here -- are watches actually made available for sale during the event by vendors? Obviously the new debuts are not for sale but what about other models from participating brands? Is there an opportunity to purchase harder-to-get existing models and/or older models while at Basel? Maybe I'm completely wrong on this -- perhaps it's more of an E3 type event (big annual convention for video game industry) where it's entirely announcements/presentations/on-hands previews/teasers of upcoming launches and no sales opportunities for currently available products.

No. I will wait for basel preview to come to me. Then I will enjoy about 5 free beers and some apps and order what I want.

If I am really slick like my buddy Brian, I will make them bring all the food, drinks and watches to me

Baselworld is actually an industry fair for the dealers where they can see the new models and order their orders. No sales are done on site only view the watches. For the regular participant, it is a bit limited with regard to the big brands, they are mostly aimed at the dealers and the press with only booked meetings. The most interesting things are the small and the independent manufacturers who willingly show off their watches for all. So without contacts or a press cards, unfortunately the fair is a bit limited. But myself was on my first Baselworld 2001 and has been there annually since 2003 and as a regular visitor, I have today built a contact net over the years that gives me access here and there.

Jocke, I enjoy your trip reports every year, especially the photos you take on the way; because with watch collecting, as we all know, the getting there part, the hunt, is sometimes the most fun; and I like the fact that you cover more brands than just Rolex. Which beard will you be wearing this year?

I agree but there are so many manufacturers and other attendees that provide videos and updates throughout the week that they probably decided to save $$ and let other companies do this work. In dispersed locations on the Internet of course, convenient for us (sarcasm). They do have a live blog on the basel Website, someone posted the address in a thread last week, which I didn't save, but probably easy to find on Google.

I go with the big beard.

I hope no one will be disappointed this year because I have some great meetings booked. It's hard to beat last years report but I believe I will do.

I will be there on Friday.

My usual routine is to wake up a 4 o'clock, drive 300 Km of Swiss freeway with a stop or two in time to get to the fair at about 9-9.30 . Depart at 3 PM maximum to get back home at 8 PM. Then straight to bed :-)
