Very cool concept for a sculpture there. Really like that it is painted, it makes it stand out as if the size alone doesn't do that, it's HUGE!!!

I hadn't seen the story about this yet but Alfred Eisenstaedt's original photo is faithfully reproduced by the sculptor.

San Diego was and still is a huge Navy town..with many Naval bases. It is also a large Marine town...with Camp Pendleton just to the north of the San Diego.
The statue is near these Naval bases and also the USS Midway museum next door.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Didn't realize it was so big until you showed it with people.

Very big Navy town and also the home port of the USS Ranger (CV-61), the carrier my Squadron was stationed aboard. I can still remember seeing yard signs that read "Sailors and dogs, keep off the lawn."

The Midway was the only carrier to beat the Ranger in war games while I was aboard. It was small enough to hide behind little islands.
