I'm new here - hello from Stoke on Trent, UK.

Just got my first rolex - sub 16610 - love it! Got it from non-AD, who brought it from AD across the street that is closing down after more than 100 years of trading - very sad. Having read a lot of info from the internet I'm confused/concerned in a couple of respects and would be grateful for answers to a few questions for any experts out there.

If I listen very closely I can hear a fast ticking - is this ok?
There's only a model number on the case; no serial number - this is inside the case between the face and crystal.
Looking very closely I think the date magnifyer maybe just 1 degree off line relative to the frame of the date window - is this possible. Should I be concerned?

Sorry if I'm reading like I'm paranoid - wish I hadn't read so much stuff on the general internet - ruining my rolex experience. Having said that if any problems I'd sooner get it sorted now.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the welcomes. Really pleased to be part of your community. I'll post some watch pics as soon as I can.

Anyone know how to tell what year a sub was actually made? Is it by the serial number prefix? Mine's a G followed by 6 numbers, which is engraved between the face and the crystal rather than the outer case. The paperwork is just dated with the original date of sale from the AD.

I think G serial started around mid 2010 which would make yours one of the last 16610's. Whereabouts in Soke are you ?

Apparrently I don't really know what time it is........

I've noticed by sub is gaining about 3 seconds each day (I noticed after a couple of weeks accumulation before anyone asks!). My local AD explains that its due to thermal movement of the mechanics and that its only guaranteed to 7 seconds in 24-hours, beyond that the it is covered under warranty.

He has added humorously that 'you wear a rolex because its a rolex, not to keep accurate time'. Not really the answer I was looking for, but I kind of like it........

The serial number is etched on the inside of the bezel at the 6 o'clock position. Surrounding it, are the words R O L E X R O L E X etc as you can see in your second picture.

Welcome to TRF .. As stated it is possible to hear a fast ticking sound if you put the watch to your ear and listen carefully .. Also a G serial indicates a 2010 model year .... You have a great looking watch judging by your pictures .... Wear in great health and enjoy TRF!
