Stick with acrylic or swap to sapphire

Newbie question:

Would you stick with a scratched acrylic or swap to sapphire?

Watch is from 1967.

Can you knowledgeable folk recommended any sources?

Thanks in advance

Sapphire crystals should not be retro-fitted to an acrylic crystal watch. They attach and seal differently onto the case.

This...
Also, I’ve heard that once the acrylic needs to be replaced the watch is more or less worthless and won’t even keep time with any degree of accuracy at all and that it’s basically a paper weight...send it on over here and I’ll check it out for ya ;)

Clearly I’m kidding...just replace the acrylic and you’ll be good to go...as Larry stated, you want to steer clear of fitting sapphire onto acrylic references...you’re just asking for potentially catastrophic problems. Welcome to the forum and post pics when you can !!

I would try polishing the crystal first. Polywatch comes highly recommended, personally I use chrome polish which is the same thing and available at any petrol station or hardware store. If there are deep scratches polish them out with some fine sand paper. Start at 400 then 800 then 1200 then the chrome polish. It takes about 30 min and a bit of elbow grease to transform a scratched up old crystal into something that looks almost new.
