an interesting BLancpain Fifty Fathoms sold
overnite on the MWR forum, for just under $10K (8900 euros)
kind of an interesting model, from the late 1970s, that was produced for the West German Bundeswehr Kampfschwimmers. A couple of items make it interesting: 1st, the bezel insert is sterile of minute markings as the German Combat swimmers were using Scuba Re-breathing systems, they were staying submerged for hours, not minutes and the sterile insert was at the German Combat Swimmers request. 2nd item though, it's described as a rare model, and i don't doubt, but i found 2 other examples available for sale currently, at $12K and $14,200, and one other that just sold, price unknown. Makes me suspect the german army had a surplus auction not too long ago FWIW - i assume this forum doesn't appreciate links to other forums for sale pages, so jump over there, it's near the top of the page. I had contacted the seller last night, and he emailed me early this morning that it's sold. here's a link to a brief article on the model https://heuerville.wordpress.com/201...thoms-3h-bund/ |

Thank you for posting. I’ve never heard of this watch before; very cool history and a very cool watch as well.
