I have a Portuguese auto 7 day 5001-07 and aquatimer titanium 3536-01; absolutely loves these two. Surprising to me; I don’t actually have an iwc pilot. IWC is known for their pilots; you should look at Sinn as well. I have a EZM 1.1

Like the Portuguese line the most. With their 8-year warranty I think IWC is a solid brand and is a great choice for daily used watches

That’s actually about right timing-wise for this reference. The timing is supposed to even out over a bit the full 8 day power reserve. The torque of the mainspring isn’t even across the full 8 days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My ceramic top gun chrono had some problems that made me really nervous. It was eventually fixed and was rather difficult to sell. If it matters to you, the watch got a lot of attention and had wrist presence the short time I wore and it did look very very cool. Make sure you get a good deal but not too good to be true because there are many fakes and scams out there, I was almost scammed 3 times trying to buy one at different times.

My 3706 doesn’t get enough wrist time, but every time I open my safe to take it out and to evaluate if I should get rid of it, I can’t bring myself to sell/trade it. It puts a smile on my face.

IWC has some great complicated timepieces at the high end and solid workhorses at the low end.

Gonna provide a different opinion here.
My first serious watch was the 7 day IWC Portugieser Automatic (IW500704). I love it so much I wore it every single day for years. Kept accurate time for 3.5 years. It all went downhill from there. Couldn't keep accurate time and the watch stops ticking with the indicator saying 4 more days of power reserve. I sent it in for service out of warranty, but was surprised IWC sent it back serviced, free of charge. Sounds like a good gesture, maybe these guys knew something was wrong! It worked well again for another 2 months, and the same problems came back. It's even worse now as it would lose 3 secs in an hour! I'm planning to send it in again but I'm in no rush as this company has repeatedly disappointed me. Look around this or other forums, and you'll hear similar experiences. IWC hasn't even replied any of my emails the past few weeks. They make really good looking watches, but their movements and customer service are bad. I like their spitfire line a lot, but just the thought of dealing with these guys turn me off. It makes me appreciate other brands like Rolex, Patek, Tudor and Omega even more. So...do I recommend an IWC? Depends. Go for it if you really love it, but be very careful what you sign up for. EDIT: sorry for bringing up an old thread. As you can tell, I'm still itching for an IWC but it's like playing Russian Roulette with this brand's after sales issues. |

Wear it in good health! I also love IWC's pilot watches too. Real tool watches with a good no nonsense design too. |

I also love the Big Pilot too! Alas, too large for my wrist though. Congrats! Which reference is it and please post pics when you get a chance.

I'm a fan of the brand - I mean what's not to like. My only grip would be the non in-house movement on lower models. Other than that they make a solid pilots watch.

I like the transitional but it’s not clear what premium I would apply to it. I do like those shots with the BP where you can see the the second hand moving ever so slightly as it is slow beat. The hand set is so large on this watch the arc that the second hand makes is pretty cool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nice photo! Yeah, I can see the argument for why you wouldn't want to pay a big premium (30%+) where the only aesthetic change is the crown and the big premium is associated with the movement.
It's the same for people wanting to buy a 16710 and the premium associated with the 3186 movement vs the 3185 movement. |

Often overlooked but when I saw their new 40mm Portugieser Automatic. Tough to ignore now with that skeletonized movement and clean design. You can tell that they put a great deal of thought and restraint with this piece, in my opinion.

I love the look of most IWC. The pictures many have show on this thread are amazing! That said....in almost all the pics shown here, the watches are simply too oversized for their wrist. In many cases, comically so.

Thoughts on IWC?
Quote:
Would have preferred them at 38-39mm but they are wearable at 40mm all dial diameter. I think if IWC continues to make smaller versions of their popular designs like the 7 day power reserve etc., and use their in-house movements, they’ll be tapping on to new fans like myself. This, however, still hits the spot for me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
