Icon2 *** The Vintage Seiko Photo Gallery***

Let’s see if we can get a new Vintage Seiko Photo Gallery going here.

Anything from the 20th Century qualifies, so put 'em up!

I’ll start off with one of my favourites: a 1969 King Seiko 5621-7000 Hi-Beat Automatic

That is a nice watch, Adam. On my dad's watch, it also says 'waterproof'. I don't know if Seiko still uses the term 'waterproof' anymore. Moreover, all watches now (that I know) use the term 'water resistance'. Can someone educate me the difference between waterproof dan water resistance?

No watch is waterproof. Every watch has water resistance to one degree or another.

Thanks. Seiko changed the wording from waterproof to water resistant sometime around 1970-71 (in line with international guidelines or requirements, I believe).

I recently picked up this 1962 Seikomatic dress watch from Japan. I just noticed that it has the "Special Dial" eight-pointed star on the dial just like the first Grand Seikos from 1960 (and their 2017 re-issue, see pic below), so I'm wondering if this one has white gold indices and hands. It's in amazing condition, anyway.

I don't own a Seiko at this time. Have owned two in the past. I learned from them that Seiko = Value.

Great pics, love 'em.

Nice pickup. Vintage King Seikos are great value compared to their Grand Seiko counterparts.

Thanks! When I was doing a little research before my trip I was initially interested in finding a vintage GS, but once I did a little digging and read about King Seiko and their significantly lower cost I knew that's what I had to look out for.

I ended up getting really lucky on this one. Basically got exactly what I was looking for and my best vacation souvenir to date.

I want to say I got it about 15-20 years ago.

Went in to an antique shop and looked in to a showcase and thought I was looking at an Ingersoll alarm clock, then I realized it had lugs.

Got it out and realized it was a Japanese military watch. Their neighbor was a WWII vet and had brought it home with him.

9 jewel "Kamikaze" watch. 48MM. Case and movement signed Seikosha.

I was lucky to find this 5246-6010 "Special" from 1971, which contains arguably the best of the King Seiko/Grand Seiko movements (the 52KS) produced before both brands went all-quartz in the mid 1970s. The one-piece 6010 case is quite rare, and took a while to find in good condition.

Now I just need to order a strap worthy of it, to replace this PVC junker.

I guess you can say I have a vintage Seiko addiction!

Here's an older collection shot, I believe I've added 3 more since this. (Blue dial Pogue, 6139 & 6105)

Second photo is of probably one of the earliest automatic chronographs out there! Feb. of 69, with the dial being marked Dec. of 68!

Just added the 6105 this week, got it from the original owner's estate. He purchased it on the PX, used it during service, then dropped it when he returned home. It sat in a drawer ever since then!
