Patek Philippe Neptune 5085 *Sleeper*

Hello TRF,

Who else sees big value in the steel Patek Philippe Neptune as a cheaper option for a steel Patek? Curious what other enthusiast love or hate about the Neptune.

I like the dial as a precursor to the 5712 but not a huge fan of that integrated and busy bracelet.

Never seen it in person though so maybe it could grow on me!?

I also like this series. To my eyes, they’re quirky in the right way. Unfortunately, the “market” doesn’t seem to agree to you and I.

I love this reference, the watch is very sleek and slim. It’s super comfortable on the wrist, as if you are wearing nothing. The dial is very easy to read off the time, the date is a little tough for aging eyes. The bracelet, well I have mixed feeling... it feel like it’s fragile and could have some more substance( coming from Rolex bracelets) but it’s catchy in low light settings. I think for the money on the used market it’s a great watch. To me it has much more character than a plain calatrava. Each to their own.

Like the dial quite a bit. Not a fan of the bracelet. Kind of reminds me of the way the bracelet on the new Lange sport watch overpowers the case.

Not a fan of the plastic hands. However still a nicely sized steel complication:)

Patek Philippe Neptune 5085 *Sleeper*

Owned this piece a couple of years back.

Super comfortable.

Lovely black dial, prefer it to the 5712 dial.

Piece was ultimately too shiny for anything but evening wear so let it go.

Sometimes things are cheap for a reason - value trap. I’d pass.

Lovely watch. It has benefitted by the surge in demand for Nautilus and Aqua, but not a thing to buy unless you love it.

Nice dial but a bit Breitlingy in all the surrounding bling.

+2

Wondering if one could put it on a strap / if the center links of the bracelet are attached to the case at all.

I have owned this watch twice. LOVE IT! One of the best bracelets Patek has ever made. The black dial against the white is very easy to read everything the dial displays, unlike other models that display the same thing. Dress up or Dress down. Versatile. I think after this post I want another one!

Sleeper? Yes.

Can’t be done, centre links are attached to the case. I have seen one owner grind off the links and fit a strap but pretty drastic!

Love the dial - and have considered adding one several times- don’t absolutely love the bracelet - but it has grown in me found one on a strap that was nice I think it was a J...

its just an early version of a 5712... if you find beauty in its less evolved form, then you are way ahead of the lot

I actually like the Neptune in all its iterations. It is easy to read and comfortable to wear. I am also a fan of the unique bracelet. I think it is under appreciated.

I like it.......

Have the opportunity of buying one (preowned) but too bad it doesn't have box and paper, otherwise I'll be all over it......

Great value but a scratch magnet....if it was All brushed instead of polished I think it would have been better received

But they are genuine plastic hands, unlike the artificial plastic that some brands use.

That dial layout is a dog, and that specific dial there looks like it was made in MS Word. Probably a reasonably priced way to get something legit that says Patek Philippe on your wrist if that's a goal.

I guess another watch in that vein would be the 5091/1a; ugly steel sport-ish watch on bracelet that's a relative 'value', but with Russian flair!

I think it is a sleeper. It’s a sporty PP with a great movement. I almost bought it when it came out because it was the OnLY complicated PP Tat you could wear in the water. I have the 5712 now but I think the 5085 represents real value,

You can’t wear it in water- that is one of the issues. Screw down crown but minimum resistance due to the correctors. It does not have the 60m resistance of the 5712.
